Is Taylor Swift’s engagement announcement the most-liked post on Instagram's history? Here's who she has to beat

On Tuesday, August 26, Taylor Swift posted the pictures of her engagement with Travis Kelce, including one close-up of the engagement ring, and another of Kelce on his knees as the All Too Well singer hugged him.

Hindustan Times reports that the Instagram post, which was shared jointly by the couple, reached more than 16 million likes within three hours. The caption of the post read:

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married."

However, it hasn't reached the milestone of the most-liked Instagram post in history. Currently, a Lionel Messi post from 2022, which announces his victory in the World Cup, owns the title with more than 74.5 million likes. It's followed by a viral picture of an egg from 2019. This one has 60 million likes on the platform.

The third, fourth, and fifth spots are all taken by Lionel Messi, with one of them being his viral LV ad with Cristiano Ronaldo.

According to the media outlet, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce first made their relationship public two years ago, when they were seen attending an SNL afterparty together.

Kelce also made Swift a bracelet the first time he attended her show in the Eras Tour, and was "disappointed" that he didn't get to give it to her. It had his phone number on it.

In September 2023, Swift was spotted sitting next to Travis's mother, Donna Kelce, during one of his games. A month later, the SNL party incident took place, confirming rumors of them dating as true.

The news of Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's engagement comes weeks after the Love Story singer appeared on her beau's podcast. The episode, which premiered on August 13, featured Swift sharing the news of her upcoming project—a new studio album set to be released later this year.

On the podcast, Tay announced the album to be titled The Life of a Showgirl, before going on to read out its tracklist, which contains these 12 songs:

Since the tracklist's release, many netizens have been speculating whether the songs Ruin the Friendship and Cancelled! are about her recently estranged friend, Blake Lively.

Months ago, Taylor Swift got pulled into Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni's legal battle over the It Ends With Us controversy. It caused the celebrities their friendship, with the Adaline star no longer having a place in Tay's life.

Taylor also released three alternative cover arts for his album, with their limited-edition versions available on the singer's official website.

Taylor Swift's The Life of a Showgirl is scheduled to be released on October 3. Whether or not the couple picked a date for their wedding remains to be seen.
