Lizzo's attorney, Marty Singer, stated on July 18, 2025, that the artist's former wardrobe stylist, Asha Daniels, is a "disgruntled" individual. He requested the judge to drop Daniels' allegations, claiming they were made because of her alleged "personal vendettas." He also noted that Asha could not provide a single witness.
"Daniels is not a victim of discrimination or harassment, but a disgruntled former employee with an inflated ego, personal vendettas, and an unquenchable thirst for free publicity... Her frivolous lawsuit makes a mockery of true victims and the laws designed to protect them," Marty Singer said.
For the unversed, fashion designer Asha Daniels filed the lawsuit in September 2023, accusing Lizzo and her team, which includes the singer's wardrobe manager, Amanda Nomura.
Asha Daniels claimed during the Special tour that the artist had a group chat where they allegedly discussed s**ually explicit things. She also stated that Nomura was reportedly verbally abusive, and called people "useless," "dumb," and "fat."
Daniels stated in her lawsuit that she was allegedly overworked and was reportedly forced by Nomura to wear tennis shoes instead of orthopedic shoes when she was injured. Asha claimed that Black background dancers allegedly faced racism, and when she complained to Carlina Gugliotta, the tour manager, she was ignored and ultimately fired.
Lizzo and her team denied the allegations at the time. According to BBC's December 6, 2024, report, the judge stated that Asha Daniels could not sue the artist as an individual, which is why the case against Lizzo was dropped. However, her touring company, Big Grrrl Touring, is now facing the lawsuit.
In August 2023, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, the singer's former background dancers, filed a s**ual harassment lawsuit against Lizzo and her touring company.
They claimed they faced racial and religious discrimination as well as s**ual harassment. In the suit, the dancers stated that while they were in Amsterdam for the Special tour, they were supposedly forced to attend a live s*x show.
The singer, whose real name is Melissa Jefferson, allegedly urged them to perform s**ually charged acts with the performers, and Arianna Davis was reportedly told to touch one performer's br**st.
Jefferson's attorney, Martin Singer, denied the allegations, calling them a "fabricated sob story" allegedly created for a "quick payday."
"Plaintiffs filed this lawsuit against defendants out of spite and in pursuit of media attention, public sympathy, and a quick payday with minimal effort," the attorney stated.
According to E! News' December 21, 2024, report, the singer claimed she was dismissed from the lawsuit in the December 19, 2024, episode of Keke Palmer's Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast. However, the attorney for the three dancers, Ron Zambrano, stated that Jefferson is still a defendant in the suit.
"Let's be clear, I did nothing wrong," Lizzo stated in the podcast.
According to HotNewHipHop's July 21, 2025, report, the judge has not yet issued an order, and if the motion is denied, a jury trial could begin. The media outlet reported that the jury trial is expected to begin in December 2025.
