ABC’s long-running talk show, The View, will be going on a hiatus soon. As per co-host Joy Behar, the show’s July 25 episode on Friday will be its last before it pauses its new programming. Behar’s revelation sparked intense concern and speculation about whether or not The View is being cancelled in the wake of the hosts’ ongoing feud with President Donald Trump.

Earlier, on July 23, the White House cautioned Behar and The View against their anti-Trump rhetoric, warning that the show could be taken “off air.” The White House’s warning specifically referred to her comments about Trump allegedly being jealous of former Democrat President Barack Obama.

The conflict between The View’s Joy Behar and the Trump administration, explored

The feud between The View and the Donald Trump administration began when the President accused former President Barack Obama of treason on July 22, calling his actions “seditious,” as per USA Today.

Obama responded to the allegations as well as a report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, which alleged that he “lay the groundwork for what was essentially a years-long coup” against Trump’s victory in the Presidential elections of 2016, as per the news outlet. Denying the allegations, Obama characterized them as baseless and “nonsense and misinformation,” according to USA Today.

The View fortified Obama’s denials by clapping back at Trump during the show’s July 23 episode. During the show, Behar referred to the January 6, 2021, attack on the United States Capitol, and said:

“First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6. Who was that again? That was not Obama.”

Continuing her attack against the current President, Behar added that Trump was “jealous” of Obama. She added:

“The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green. And Trump cannot stand it. It’s driving him crazy.”

Behar’s comments against Trump received flak from the administration directly, when the White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers released a statement to Entertainment Weekly, which read,

“Joy Behar is an irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

As per USA Today, Rogers referred to the show’s ratings in his statement and added,

“It’s no surprise that The View’s ratings hit an all-time low last year. She should self-reflect on her own jealousy of President Trump’s historic popularity before her show is the next to be pulled off air.”

Amid the warning by the White House, fear against The View’s supposed cancellation was heightened when Behar, while appearing on the show on July 24, revealed that the talk show would be going on a hiatus. As per The Independent, she said:

“Before we go on hiatus, we only have one more show after this…I’m allowed to say that, right?”

She turned to look off camera at the show’s executive producer, Brian Teta, who responded with,

    “It doesn’t really matter.”

Even co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said that it was "too late" as Behar had already spilled the beans.

Fears about the show’s cancellation are exacerbated by the recent cancellation of CBS’s late night show, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, which is also an outspoken critic of the administration like The View.

Furthermore, the FCC Chairman Brendan Carr did respond to The View’s current status, according to Variety. As per the publication, during an interview with Fox News on July 24, while referring to the show, Carr said,

“It’s entirely possible that there’s issues over there. Once President Trump has exposed these media gatekeepers and smashed this facade, there’s a lot of consequences. I think the consequences of that aren’t quite finished.”

Amid the speculation about The View’s alleged cancellation, it is important to note that the talk-show typically takes a summer hiatus every year. The Independent noted that after taking a week-long break for July 4, the show returns to air for a few weeks before pausing its programming at the end of July or in August, to return to air with a new season sometime in the fall.

As per The Independent, co-host of The View, actress Whoopi Goldberg herself referred to the scheduled hiatus while emphasizing that during the hiatus, older episodes of The View would be aired and the show would return for a “new season” in the fall.
