The Hunting Wives made its debut on Netflix on July 21, 2025. Adapted from May Cobb’s bestselling novel, the show dives headfirst into the deadly secrets of Maple Brook, Texas. The story begins with a chilling murder. Soon it unfolds across a web of lies, affairs, and backstabbing friendships among wealthy suburban wives.
In The Hunting Wives, Sophie's character is played by Brittany Snow. A recent transplant from Cambridge, she’s drawn into this seductive world through Margo (Malin Åkerman), the alluring wife of her husband’s boss. Soon, Sophie gets entangled in multiple murders and ends the season covering up a fatal accident she caused. As she is on her journey to find out the truth, it takes a dark turn, leaving her guilty and deeply changed.
Sophie’s fate in The Hunting Wives is determined by a series of unfortunate decisions. It ultimately takes her through a certain transformation from an innocent outsider to someone trapped in a web of deceit and violence. Her journey begins when she relocates to Maple Brook, Texas, with her husband, Graham, and quickly becomes involved in a group of high-society women led by Margo. Sophie is drawn into their social circle, indulging in drinking, hunting, and the secrets that come with it, unaware of how much darker things will get.
The first major turning point in Sophie’s life occurs with the murder of Abby, a teenager who is killed by Margo in a fit of rage when Abby confronts her about a secret abortion. Sophie’s gun is linked to the crime, making her an immediate suspect. Though Sophie cannot fully remember the night, clouded by alcohol and Xanax, she is determined to find out the truth. Her investigation reveals the dark secrets that lie beneath the glossy surface of Maple Brook, including the complex relationships between the women.
The investigation into Abby’s murder goes on, and Sophie becomes convinced that Margo is the real killer. However, her suspicions take her ahead to a disastrous confrontation. Soon, she makes up her mind to confront Margo directly. During this face-off, Sophie gets in touch with some unsettling truths. She comes to know about Margo’s lies about not being able to use tampons post-abortion and this makes Sophie realize Margo’s involvement in Abby’s death. However, Sophie doesn’t go and inform the police. Her own criminal past, with a homicide, holds her back.
Sophie's tragic story continues. She learns that Kyle (Michael Aaron Milligan), Margo's brother, is trying to stop her from telling the truth. Realizing this, she becomes so scared that she runs him over with her car. She hides his body in the woods to save her reputation. In a turn of events, she loses her tag as a naïve newcomer to town by the end of the season. She is forced now to live with the guilt, trapped by her own choices and the secrets of the people around her.
In The Hunting Wives season 1, first, Sophie appears as a victim of circumstance. However, her choices make her complicit. She comes to know the truth about Abby’s death. Unfortunately, she breaks the law in her attempt to protect herself.
