Cane's desperate offer

Cane Ashby, being always the overbearing father, was in a desperate situation as far as his daughter, Matilda, was concerned. Current rumors and gossip surrounding Matilda's involvement in a questionable affair had the likelihood of ruining her reputation and endangering her future. Ready to put an end to the gossip and clear her name, Cane approached Chance Chancellor. Renowned for his investigative abilities and discretion, Chance was Cane's best option. 

Further on The Young and the Restless, Cane offered Chance a substantial sum of money – a record-breaking $500,000 – to quietly probe the rumor and obtain concrete evidence to clear Matilda.
