In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Love Island USA narrator Iain Stirling spoke on July 4, 2025, about fan-favorite Amaya Espinal, also known to viewers as “Amaya Papaya.” Stirling, who narrates both the UK and USA versions of the show, praised the 25-year-old for her bold personality and distinctive way of speaking, which has gone viral this season.

“Her confidence is just so amazing,” Stirling said, explaining how her mix-ups with pronunciation and phrasing quickly became a part of her charm.

“She just disregards the sentence structure and letters and stuff. I think it’s amazing,” he added.

Stirling admitted they initially considered poking fun at her phrasing in the narration, but soon realized it would dominate the commentary. Instead, he came to admire how confidently Amaya delivers her words without any self-doubt. “She says it with her chest,” he added.

Host Ariana Madix also spoke about her admiration for Amaya, especially during a moment after Casa Amor when two Islanders expressed interest in coupling up with her.

Stirling says Amaya “backs herself” and delivers every word with full confidence in Love Island USA

Speaking about Amaya’s now-famous way of talking, Iain Stirling told People magazine that what initially seemed like a joke quickly turned into something he truly admired.

“It's so funny because, very early days, we were going to do jokes about how she didn’t say words right.” “And then we were like, ‘Oh, I don’t really know how that sits with me,’” he said.

As this season of Love Island USA progressed, Stirling noted that it became clear Amaya’s phrasing wasn’t just random — it was part of her personality. What stood out most for Stirling was how Amaya never second-guessed herself.

“She never says a word wrong and [questions it]. No, she just says it and then continues as if everyone else has just been saying it wrong for years,” he said.

Amaya’s way of speaking has made her a standout among viewers, who’ve embraced her phrases and given her the nickname “Amaya Papaya.” For Stirling, her confidence is a big reason why she’s become such a memorable part of the Love Island USA season.

Ariana Madix says she was “very happy” when two Islanders stood up for Amaya

Love Island USA host Ariana Madix also spoke to People magazine about a key moment that stood out for her this season — when two boys expressed their interest in recoupling with Amaya after Casa Amor. Madix recalled the situation and admitted it was hard to stay neutral as a host. Referring to Zak Srakaew and JD Dodard, she said:

“just so excited when two guys stood up for Amaya."

Madix explained that while she typically keeps a straight face during emotionally charged moments in the villa, this one was different. She said she tried to stay composed while asking Amaya how she was feeling during the moment, but admitted she was "actually very happy" for her.

Amaya has become a fan-favorite because of her energy, funny phrases, and steady presence in the villa. Her word mix-ups and viral moments have connected with both viewers and the cast.

Madix, who comes to the villa to share news and surprises, said it’s been nice to see people like Amaya grow more confident over time. She added that watching that growth has been one of the best parts of her job on Love Island USA season 7.
