In an incident that closely mirrors the storyline of the popular TV series Breaking Bad, two school teachers from Rajasthan were arrested for running a synthetic drug lab out of a rented flat in Sriganganagar. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jodhpur unit, carried out the raid and uncovered a high-tech setup used to manufacture mephedrone (MD), a banned synthetic drug.

The arrest has shocked many, especially because the two accused were not criminals by profession, but trained science teachers. Their background and the way they went about the entire operation show that they had both the knowledge and planning to pull off something this elaborate.

    What Happened in Sriganganagar?

The case began when the NCB received a tip about suspicious activity at a rented flat in Sriganganagar. Based on this information, a team from the Jodhpur unit conducted a raid. Inside the flat, they found a fully functional lab with chemicals, instruments, and containers used to produce mephedrone.

The two men arrested were identified as Deepak and Pawan. Both had teaching backgrounds and were trained in chemistry. According to the NCB, they used their subject knowledge to run the lab and produce synthetic drugs. The team also found a handbook of chemistry reactions and handwritten notes with formulas and measurements.

Officials said the entire setup was planned in a way that would not attract attention. The flat was in a regular neighborhood, and the equipment was arranged to look like it was being used for general science work. But when tested, the chemicals confirmed the production of mephedrone.

A case inspired by a TV show

One of the most striking details of this case is the inspiration behind it. According to reports, one of the accused was deeply influenced by Breaking Bad, a popular American TV show in which a high school chemistry teacher turns to making drugs to support his family. Investigators believe this show may have played a role in shaping how the accused planned the lab and carried out the process.

However, authorities were quick to point out that this was not a copy of the show but a real criminal activity with serious consequences. Mephedrone is classified as a synthetic drug that can cause harmful effects and is banned under Indian law.

    How the Lab Worked

The flat was found to have lab-grade glassware, heating mantles, vacuum pumps, and chemicals like acetone and caustic soda. These are commonly used in scientific work but can also be misused to make illegal drugs. The accused were producing small batches and were possibly planning to sell them in nearby areas.

During questioning, the accused admitted that they had learned about the process from online sources and chemistry books. They also said that running the lab in a rented flat helped them stay unnoticed for several months.

    What the NCB said

NCB Zonal Director (Jodhpur) Gyaneshwar Singh shared that the case stands out because of the profile of the accused. Unlike many drug-related arrests, these were people with formal education and no past criminal record. The case, he said, highlights the changing methods in synthetic drug manufacturing and the need for increased monitoring.

Authorities are now looking into how the drugs were being distributed and if there were others involved in the network. The NCB has also warned that synthetic drugs are dangerous and can be easily made if people with the right knowledge choose to misuse it.

    What Happens Next

Both accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigations are still ongoing, and more details are expected in the coming days.
