Dolly Parton Brings a "Stressed" Stephen Colbert to Tears

  • Dolly Parton is such an amazing artist that she can make grown men cry without even trying.

While appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Tuesday night, Parton discussed the songs her mother used to sing, explaining that "so many of those songs were sad, and as I say, some of them, just plum pitiful." Parton then started to sing a few bars of 'Bury Me Beneath the Willow' about a girl who killed herself over a lost love.

That impromptu song was enough to bring Colbert to tears.

"Like a lot of Americans, I'm under a lot of stress right now, Dolly" he said, laughing about how surprised he was to be crying. "You got right under my tripwire right there."

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 PM ET on CBS.
