Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will star in the Wonder Man series coming to Disney+.

The actor broke out as Doctor Manhattan in HBO's Watchmen series in 2019 and has since been seen as Black Manta in the Aquaman franchise, as well as horror remake Candyman and Netflix's The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Wonder Man, aka Simon Williams, was first introduced in 1964. Initially a supervillain, he later joins The Avengers after fighting them. Wonder Man is co-created by Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed and co-wrote Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rigns, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine vet Andrew Guest.

The casting news comes after Ben Kingsley was confirmed to be returning as Iron Man 3 villain Trevor Slattery for the series.

Production could reportedly begin as early as next year. No further plot details are known yet.
