French comedian Bun Hay Mean passed away on July 10 after falling from the eighth floor in Paris, reported Le Parisien. Mean was 43 years old when he died.
An investigation has been launched into the death of the comedian by the prosecutor of Paris, according to Le Parisien. However, the publication also noted that the authorities are largely agreeing that Mean’s death was accidental.
Philippe Delmas, Mean’s producer, shared a statement in wake of the comedian’s passing.
Taking to Instagram, Delmas wrote,
“It is with infinite sadness that we must announce the tragic death of our friend, our immense artist, Bun Hay Mean. He was supposed to leave for Montreal at the end of the morning to perform on July 11. He was so happy to have found his way back to the stage, his audience.”
Delmas made a comment on the sudden death, writing,
“According to the elements in our possession, it was just before his departure, and while trying to retrieve his phone that fell into the gutter of his balcony, that Bun slipped and fell several floors. We are devastated, we think of his family, his mom, his dad, his brothers and sisters.”
People across the nation are paying tribute to the comedian, who was also known as “Chinois marrant,” translated to “funny Chinese.”
In 2023, Bun Hay Mean appeared in the film, Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, which also starred Marion Cotillard.
Florian Philippot, a former member of the European Parliament, took to X to pay his respects to Mean. He wrote,
“Tribute to the comedian Bun Hay Mean who tragically passed away after a fall from the 8th floor. Thoughts for his loved ones.”
Actor and director Quentin Merabet, who worked with Mean, wrote on X,
“I had the chance to work quite a bit with Bun Hay Mean. As a director and as a writer.”
Sharing anecdotes from his time together with Mean, Merabet added,
“I keep the good moments, like that trip to Thailand (with Steve Tran) during which I filmed him for 2 weeks. Over there, our Thai guide kept showing us photos (taken with his somewhat average phone) and Bun literally gave him his iPhone. At his place in Paris, there were always people in need that he took in. That’s the kind of guy he was. He had his ups and downs, but I’ve rarely met anyone more generous in my life.”

Je garde les bon moments, comme ce voyage en Thaïlande (avec Steve Tran) durant lequel je l'ai filmé pendant 2 semaines.
