As Danville City Council member Lee Vogler struggles to recover after he was set on fire in a vicious workplace attack, the focus has been on his family, namely his wife, Blair Vogler, whose birthday he had recently celebrated just before the horrid incident took place. The 38-year-old political figure is also a loving husband and father.
Blair has always led a private life; friends and neighbors describe her as a stoic partner who has supported her husband’s parallel careers in politics and in the media.
According to a report by Biography Kind, the couple, who tied the knot in 2011, had known each other for a long time. After their marriage, Vogler made history in 2012 by being elected to the Danville City Council. Lee Vogler shares two children with his wife Blair Vogler.
Lee Vogler’s wife of 14 years, Blair Lee, has been with him since the July 30 attack at Showcase Magazine, where the councilman works as a managing partner with Andrew Brooks.
Brooks and other witnesses said the suspect, 29-year-old Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes, barged into the office, drenched Vogler with gasoline, then chased him outdoors as he set him ablaze.
"Our door is locked... They forced their way into the office, and went to Lee. The next thing, Lee is running through the office covered in gasoline, yelling for our officemate to call 911. The guy chased him outside and set him on fire," Andrew Brooks told The Associated Press
Lee Vogler has established himself as a leader in Danville, through service to the public, business, and community development. Originally elected to the Danville City Council in 2012 at the age of 24, he was the youngest person ever elected to this office.
According to his Linkedin profile, he has been re-elected three times, including a term as Vice Mayor (2018-2020), making him also the youngest to serve in that office.
On the other hand, Vogler is also the managing partner and director of marketing for Andrew Brooks Media Group, where he works as operator of its multimedia division since 2013.
He gained attention for his policy work in 2022 and was appointed by Governor Glenn Youngkin to the Virginia Small Business Commission and in 2023 he served as the co-chair of the Short-Term Rentals Committee of the Virginia Housing Commission. Vogler gained experience in politics, working on campaigns for Delegate Charles Poindexter and Governor Bob McDonnell.

The recent attack, which police have said was prompted by a “personal matter” not related to Vogler’s political work, has elicited an outpouring of support. Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones have publicly condemned the violence.
"We've worked through challenges together-and now, we face this heartbreak together. Please continue to pray for Lee and his family. We're standing with him-and with each other," Jones said in a statement.
Officials are keeping a lid on the specifics of the personal matter that caused Shotsie Michael Buck Hayes to attack Vogler. Unconfirmed reports imply that it may be related to a recent divorce filing by Hayes (Biography Kind).
Hayes, who is behind bars with no bond on attempted murder charges, has no previous public relationship with Vogler.
As Lee Vogler is receiving treatment for severe burns, his family are left facing a long recovery, both physically and emotionally.
