Friday the 13th prequel series is headed to Peacock.

The streamer has greenlit Crystal Lake from Bryan Fuller, the mind behind series like Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, and American Gods. The news comes after a lengthy legal battle between the original film's director-producer Sean S. Cunningham and original screenwriter Victor Miller that left Miller in control of the script and characters, but not of the original title, adult Jason, or the iconic hockey mask.

"I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since," said Fuller in a statement. "When it comes to horror, A24 raises the bar and pushes the envelope and I’m thrilled to be exploring the camp grounds of Crystal Lake under their banner. And [NBCUniversal’s] Susan Rovner is simply the best at what she does. It’s a pleasure and an honor to be working with her again."

Fuller, who is set to write, showrun, and executive produce Crystal Lake, has walked away from his last few projects; in 2018, he departed Apple TV+ series Amazing Stories after developing it for two years, citing creative differences. This move came after Fuller exited Star Trek: Discovery mid-development and quit American Gods ahead of its second season. Fuller most recently executive produced documentary series Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror on Shudder, which explores LGBTQ+ representation and queer coding and influences in horror throughout history.

"Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history and we were dying to revisit this story with our upcoming drama series Crystal Lake," said Susan Rovner, chairman of entertainment content at NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. "We can’t wait to get to work with Bryan Fuller, a gifted, visionary creator who I’ve had the pleasure of being a longtime friend and collaborator, along with our incredible partners at A24, in this updated version for Peacock that will thrill long-standing fans of the franchise."

Further details about the plot of Crystal Lake or a release date are not yet known.
