Disney officially announced, along with the first official trailer, that Zootopia 2 will be released in the United States on November 26, 2025. Similar to its predecessor, this sequel is expected to have a traditional theatrical release.
The synopsis for the film, as per Disney’s website, reads:
In Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Zootopia 2,” detectives Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) find themselves on the twisting trail of a mysterious reptile who arrives in Zootropolis and turns the mammal metropolis upside down. To crack the case, Judy and Nick must go undercover to unexpected new parts of town, where their growing partnership is tested like never before.
The voice cast of Zootopia 2 brings back many familiar characters while also introducing a fresh lineup of new faces. The cast list is led by Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps, the determined rabbit police officer from Bunnyburrow, and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde, the clever and streetwise fox who now serves as her partner in the Zootopia Police Department.
Additionally, Idris Elba reprises his role as the stern and respected Chief Bogo, while Nate Torrence returns as the ever-enthusiastic Clawhauser, and Pop star Shakira is also back as Gazelle, continuing her role as Zootopia’s musical icon.
According to a press release by Disney, the director Jared Bush was pleased to see the majority of the cast from the original film returning for the sequel. Bush also suggested that the film will include a lot of surprises as it follows the detective partners on their new adventure.
“It’s been an absolute joy to reteam with so many actors who made the first film so special, and so exciting to expand the world with our phenomenal new cast members. I can’t wait for audiences to see what other surprises we have in store in this brand-new adventure,” said Jared Bush.
Among the newcomers is Ke Huy Quan, who voices Gary De'Snake, a pit viper and Fortune Feimster joins the cast as Nibbles Maplestick, a beaver residing in Marsh Market. Quinta Brunson lends her voice to Dr. Fuzzby, a cheerful and insightful quokka who serves as a therapist working with Judy and Nick. French actor Jean Reno voices Bushron, a stoic goat police officer, while Maurice LaMarche returns as the unforgettable Mr. Big, the Arctic shrew crime boss.
In addition to the main cast, Zootopia 2 introduces a variety of colorful characters that further expand the universe. The expanded ensemble hints at a broader and more complex story that builds on the foundations of the original film.

The trailer for the animated comedy film Zootopia 2 is available on the official Walt Disney Animation Studios YouTube channel and also on its official social media accounts. The trailer begins with a group therapy session led by Dr. Fuzby for Zootopia cops. Judy and Nick are comically psychoanalyzed by the doctor, highlighting their shortcomings in their partnership.
The trailer then cuts to a scene of Chief Bogo assigning Judy and Nick a new case of investigating Gary De’Snake. Nick is confident about the case since he believes history will continue to be true, as no snake has ever entered their mammal city, ever. The clip then proceeds to show a montage of various hilarious scenes from the upcoming sequel. It also drops subtle hints that Gary De’Snake might not be the vicious enemy that they think he is, and that something bigger might be at play here.
The trailer also gives the audience a glimpse of Wind Dancer, a stallion and former actor who has replaced Leodore Lionheart as the mayor of Zootopia. New characters such as the Linxleys (a wealthy family of lynxes), Chevron (another goat police officer), and Grizzby (a grizzly bear police officer) are also seen at various points in the trailer.
With its November 2025 release date, Zootopia 2 is positioned to become a family favorite and a potential award contender, following in the footsteps of the first film’s critical and commercial success.
