Youtuber Epic Alex Time, the man who went viral for being the Burger King Foot Lettuce Guy, has reportedly passed away in his home on July 10, 2025. Alex's friend and the moderator for his Discord server, Foot Lettuce Family, first shared the news.

Although the reason behind his sudden death wasn't shared, it is speculated that Alex's death was due to seizures, which he had struggled with for the last year.

On July 16, 2012, a man who claimed to be a Burger King employee posted a picture of himself standing on top of two tubs of lettuce on 4chan, a popular imageboard website. The man mockingly told other users that they eat that lettuce in Burger King stores.

The image quickly went viral on the website, and 4chan users looked into the image's EXIF data, the information embedded in any digital file, and identified the man's location. They figured out that the man worked at the Burger King on Mayfield Road in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. Internet users contacted the store's manager, and the unnamed man was fired.

The news made headlines, and the Burger King Foot Lettuce Guy became a meme as his picture went viral on all social media platforms.

More information on the man who claimed to be the Burger King Foot Lettuce Guy

On January 1, 2025, a YouTuber named Epic Alex Time came forward and admitted that he was the one who was behind the viral image. In his video, he showed his fifth-grade yearbook, which confirmed that he was from Mayfield Heights, Ohio.

Alex claimed that his first job was at Burger King, and his two friends worked alongside him. They would supposedly joke around at the fast food place, and one day, he stood on top of the lettuce, which was allegedly thrown away afterwards. His friend took a picture and posted it on 4chan.

After the incident went viral, the entire staff of the place was reportedly fired. Alex apologized to his former manager, Dan, and Burger King, for affecting their stocks at the time.

He stated that he decided to come forward and reveal his identity after the incident resurfaced in 2017, when YouTuber Chills made a video retelling the story. Alex also shared that after he was fired, he continued to work in the food service industry. He worked at Domino's and was a general manager at Taco Bell.

He decided to shift to content creation after being diagnosed with seizures in 2024 and being unable to work. After Alex's video was posted, he did a Reddit AMA, interviews with YouTuber Chills, and Know Your Meme.

On July 11, 2025, a GoFundMe was launched by Alex's friend, Jaremy Crouse. He wrote in the description that the money would go towards Alex's funeral.

"On July 10, 2025, I was informed that my brother Alex was no longer with us due to his personal struggles and health issues and is now keeping our parents company. I come to everyone today and I ask for emotional, moral, and financial support in helping me give my brother the best final goodbye that I can," Jaremy Crouse wrote.

So far, $6,000 has been raised. YouTuber Chills has donated $1,000, calling Alex a "kind, sincere person."
