The Jeopardy! Rules Aren't Changing (For Now)

Concerned fans can relax... at least for the time being.

Jeopardy! isn't changing the rules - at least not for now.

After revealing the show had been toying with the idea of a potential rule change involving a bonus prize, producer Sarah Foss has shared that the show won't be implementing this rule (at least not anytime soon). During the Monday episode of the Inside Jeopardy! podcast, Foss discussed the current status of the cash bonus idea.

"We're not doing anything at this point. There's no bonus, nobody gets upset," said Foss. The show also will cease celebrating contestants who run a category. "We actually decided we’re not going to call out the running of a category," Foss explained. "Not even top to bottom, but within five clues. So in future episodes, you might see, if it’s... five for five, that’s when we’re gonna give applause and acknowledge running the category."

Executive producer Mike Davies had previously suggested the show give out cash bonuses to contestants who run a category, an idea wasn't very popular with some fans (and show alum Buzzy Cohen). "It’s going to affect gameplay strategy, and I don’t know if that’s something you’re interested in doing," said Cohen.

For now, it looks as though Jeopardy! will be sticking to its tried-and-true rules.
