Sandra Oh is the latest star to join the cast of The Sympathizer

HBO's adaptation of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel was ordered to series last year. Fresh off a four-season run on Killing Eve, the Emmy Award-winner will star as Sofia Mori, "a liberated feminist who, in the midst of a love triangle, begins to awaken to the complexity of her own Asian American identity."

Oh joins previously announced cast members Robert Downey Jr., Hoa Xuande (Cowboy Bebop), Fred Nguyen Khan, Toan Le, Vy Le, and Alan Trong. Kieu Chinh and Nguyen Cao Dy Duyen will also appear in recurring roles.

The Sympathizer tells the story of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the last days of the Vietnam War and his exile to the United States. Director Park Chan-wook (The HandmaidenOldboy) will serve as co-showrunner with Don McKellar.

The series is currently in production. A release date has not been announced yet.
