Actor Paul Sorvino has died at the age of 83. He was best known for his role as Paulie Cicero in Goodfellas and for playing NYPD sergeant Phil Cerreta in 31 episodes of Law & Order.

Sorvino had a prolific career in television and film that spanned five decades. He had recurring roles on shows including That's Life, Still Standing, Bad Blood, and Godfather of Harlem. Sorvino also played Henry Kissinger in the 1995 film Nixon and Fulgencio Capulet in 1996's Romeo + Juliet.

His passing was confirmed by his publicist, Roger Neal, who said the actor died Monday of natural causes after suffering health issues.

Sorvino's wife, Dee Dee Sorvino, who was by his side when he died, said in a statement, "Our hearts are broken, there will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage"

His daughter, actress Mira Sorvino, posted a tribute on Twitter, saying, "My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed. My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend."
