The Kaleidoscope Trailer Spans 25 Years & Features Interactive Storytelling

Viewers choose their own adventure in this mysterious heist thriller.
  • The first trailer for Kaleidoscope offers viewers a glimpse of a decades-spanning, interactive story.

After hearing about what is supposedly the most secure vault in the world, a team of accomplished thieves plan a $7 billion heist - give or take. The job serves as both a way to change their lives and a shot at revenge, and viewers will have the ability to watch it in pretty much any order they'd like.

The ensemble cast includes Giancarlo Esposito, Paz Vega, Jai Courtney, Rufus Sewell, Rosaline Elbay, Peter Mark Kendall, and more. Helmed by Eric Garcia, Kaleidoscope is "loosely inspired by the real-life story where seventy billion dollars in bonds went missing in downtown Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy."

The eight-episode series spans 25 years, beginning 24 years prior to the heist and concluding 6 months after. The non-linear storytelling approach will allow viewers to start with different color-titled episodes and choose their own personal viewing order up until the "epic" finale. "All viewers will eventually see all episodes, but the order in which they watch the episodes will affect their viewpoint on the story, the characters, and the questions and answers at the heart of the heist."

Kaleidoscope marks another of Netflix's ventures into interactive storytelling, following titles including Kimmy vs. The ReverendYou vs. WildBlack Mirror: BandersnatchMinecraft: Story ModeEscape The Undertaker, and more.

Kaleidoscope premieres on Netflix January 1, 2023.
