A viral meme claiming Angel Reese made a sarcastic comment about her salary has sparked confusion online. However, there’s no evidence the Chicago Sky star ever said this. Here’s what’s true about Angel Reese’s earnings and her real stance on WNBA pay.
The meme that went viral on social media is an image of Angel Reese with the quote “Y’all make $1,400 a week… I make $1,400 in 7 days", that contrasts weekly against seven-day earnings.
The post was shared far and wide, but no interviews, press conferences, or verified social media posts show Reese making the statement. The false quote appears to be part of a larger pattern of misquoting athletes for engagement.
Angel Reese just flexed on everyone hating on her. 🗣️

While the $1,400 revelation is a hoax, Angel Reese has been vocal about equitable pay for WNBA athletes. Speaking with ESPN’s Elle Duncan, she underscored the significance of the revenue sharing in the league’s current collective bargaining negotiations:
"The revenue shares, that's really important for us. We deserve it.I know we're gonna do whatever it takes to get what we deserve. I'm just gonna continue to educate myself on what's going on, and staying involved. I know my voice, I know my platform, and I know when I speak, people are listening."
According to The Sporting News, Angel Reese, the No. 7 pick in the 2024 draft, makes $74,905 this season on a four-year, $324,383 rookie contract with the Sky.
Although her WNBA salary comes out to roughly $4,400 per week during the 17-week season, players such as Reese make additional money by competing overseas and through endorsements. Angel Reese’s financial portfolio goes well beyond her WNBA paycheck. As of 2025, with an estimated net worth of more than $2 million, she makes more money thanks to the endorsements such as sponsored deals with Reebok, Beats by Dre, McDonald’s, and others. She also owns stakes in DC Power FC (NWSL) and the basketball league Unrivaled. She also earns through her podcast, Unapologetically Angel, and licensing trademarks, including Mebounds.
"I know we're not letting up. I know we're going to do whatever it takes to get what we deserve."

As per Sports Illustrated, Reese has said that reports of her $2 million net worth are "way off", suggesting she earns more than that.
"I’m able to soon retire my mom, I can pay off my mortgage, my family, everybody’s taken care of… One thing about me, I have a really good circle around me, and I think that’s really important," she said at the 2024 ComplexCon in Las Vegas.
Critics believe that the false $1,400 quote taps into real debates about WNBA pay equity but distracts from Angel Reese’s legitimate advocacy.
