Mark Zuckerberg continued his Fourth of July tradition as he went surfing on Friday. This year, the CEO of Meta wore a big inflatable costume of an eagle wearing the American flag. As he put on the costume, he could be heard jokingly asking his crew,

"Is this the stupidest thing we have done so far?"

Mark Zuckerberg's Independence Day celebration tradition began in 2021. He uploaded a video of himself surfing, holding the American flag, while Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver played in the background. While some netizens claimed the video was AI-generated, it became a meme online.

"Mark Zuckerberg posted a video of himself on Instagram wakeboarding while holding an American flag and set to the music of the late John Denver singing Take Me Home, Country Roads. I saw it, so now you have to see it too. I’m sorry. I did not make the rules. Happy #July4th," one netizen wrote.

Last year, Zuckerberg continued the tradition and posted another surfing video, this time wearing a tuxedo and holding a can of beer and the American flag. Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA played in the background.

According to WIRED's report, on Monday, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sent a message to his company staff, calling Meta "distasteful" for hiring AI experts from their company. While it is uncertain how much Mark Zuckerberg's company offered the newly hired team, it is rumored that AI experts were paid up to $300 million.

Sam Altman claimed in his statement that Meta supposedly has been hiring for a long time, and they didn't get OpenAI's top talent, and only recruited people at the bottom of their list.

"Meta has gotten a few great people for sure, but on the whole, it is hard to overstate how much they didn't get their top people and had to go quite far down their list; they have been trying to recruit people for a super long time, and I've lost track of how many people from here they've tried to get to be their Chief Scientist," Altman said in his statement.

In other news, Mark Zuckerberg was allegedly asked to leave the Oval Office when he entered uninvited to a meeting that included multiple military leaders and US President Donald Trump. The Daily Mail reported the news on July 2, 2025, but it is not clear when the alleged incident occurred.
