The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced a recall of Cabot Creamery’s Sea Salt Caramel Cheddar Popcorn due to one of its undeclared ingredients.
In their announcement dated October 17, 2025, the FDA stated that the caramel-flavoured popcorn could contain an allergen from peanuts.
Cabot Creamery identified the issue and notified the FDA after their distributing partner received customer complaints of the presence of peanuts in their products:
"On October 15, 2025, The Farmer Companies, Inc., notified the firm that two customers complained of peanuts in their bags of the product. No illnesses have been reported to date."
The product details are Cabot Creamery Sea Salt Caramel Cheddar Popcorn 6 oz (170 g) bag, lot number 2519907B1, Best If Enjoyed By: 07 15 26 UPC 8 50016 94430 6 with Lot Code 2519907B1.
In a news release dated October 20, 2025, Cabot Creamery addressed the voluntary recall of its caramel cheddar popcorn by its product partner, The Farmer Companies.
The company stated that the affected product was produced for The Farmer Company by a third-party manufacturer, Jody’s Inc., and was never made in any Cabot Creamery facility.
Daniel Wadyka, Vice President of Food and Safety, Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs expressed that customer’s trust was paramount to the company:
"Nothing matters more to us than the trust consumers place in the Cabot name. Although this popcorn was produced by a licensed product partner, every product that carries our brand must meet the same high standards for quality and safety. "
He added that the company was deeply disappointed about the recall incident:
"We are deeply disappointed this occurred and are requiring a full review of our licensed product partner’s quality control processes and the corrective actions taken to prevent this from happening again.”
Customers who have the affected product are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard it.
