Nick’s shocking betrayal in The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 episode 6 could be the final blow to June’s trust

The dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 premiered its sixth episode, titled Surprise, on April 29, 2025. Based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood, the series was created by Bruce Miller. It is available for the audience on the Disney+ and Hulu apps. 

The latest installment is set to continue June’s rebellion against the totalitarian, theonomic government of Gilead. In the fifth episode, June continues building up to a major Mayday attack that will eliminate many commanders at Jezebel’s. She and Moira returned to warn the women at Jezebel about the upcoming attack. However, while escaping the place, they are spotted by the guard, whom they end up killing.  

In the latest episode of The Handmaid’s Tale season 6, Commander Lawrence continues to help them escape by hiding them in their car, also enlisting Nick's help in smuggling the duo out. However, after being confronted by his father-in-law, Commander Wharton, Nick ends up revealing the Mayday attack plan on Jezebel’s to him. 

As per IMDb, the dystopian series has received a positive approval rating of 8.3/10 based on over 275,000 user ratings so far.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 delivered a shocking twist to June’s plans

In the latest episode of The Handmaid’s Tale season 6, June and Moira continued their escape out of Gilead after warning the women of the upcoming attack. After eliminating the guard, Commander Lawrence snuck them in his car to help in the escape. They were also being assisted by Commander Nick, who has helped June throughout her plan. 

However, his father-in-law, Commander Wharton, had grown extremely suspicious of him and his secret activities in Jezebel’s. Upon discovering that Nick is present here, Wharton confronts Lawrence and him as they were about to escape with June and Moira hidden in their car. As he cornered Nick about his activities, June decided to enlist Serene Joy’s help to escape.

Later, however, June discovers that Nick told Commander Wharton about Mayday's Jezebel's plan. As Nick and June were hidden in the closet, she overheard Wharton informing Serena about the plan and that it was Nick who told him about it. Although June felt betrayed, Nick had no other option but to do so. 

Commander Wharton was on to him, and if further lies were exposed, it may have landed him on the Wall. This also explains why he wanted to escape to Paris, with him hoping to get out before further details about his involvement were discovered.

The dystopian series The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is created by Bruce Miller. It is based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. The series is led by Elisabeth Moss, who stars as June Offred and also serves as an executive producer along with Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken, Eric Tuchman, and Mike Barer. The latest installment also features Joseph Fiennes as Commander Wharton, Yvonne Strahovski as Serena Joy, Samira Wiley as Moira, and Max Minghella as Nick.

The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 episode 7, titled Shattered, will premiere on Hulu on May 6, 2025. The episode is directed by Daina Reid and written by Katherine Collins.
