Star Trek: Discovery, Andor, and 23 More TV Shows That Are Ending in 2024

There’s a lot to look forward to this coming year in television. With the strikes behind us, production is heating up on anticipated new series and returning favorites. However, 2024 is also a big year for notable TV series ending as networks and streamers make room for new fare. From beloved procedurals like Magnum PI to comedies and dramas that left their mark, here are 26 shows ending in 2024 — and why.

La Brea

Debuted: September 28, 2021
Finale date: February 13

The apocalyptic drama starring Natalie Zea and Jon Seda is another series affected by the strikes. Rather than keep its cast on contract, NBC released everyone and announced a six-episode final season in November 2023. In February, the story wraps with a promisingly named two-part finale: “The Road Home.”

Good Trouble

Debuted: January 9, 2019
Finale date: Early 2024

When Freeform’s The Fosters spin-off returns for the back half of Season 5 in early January, those episodes will serve as the show’s conclusion. Costs and low ratings are the reported reasons why Good Trouble is ending, but the network did give the crew time to film additional scenes for a series finale that will give fans a proper farewell.

Hightown

Debuted: May 17, 2020
Finale date: March 8

Starz announced this Monica Raymund-starring series was canceled in December, before the third and final season began. This last stretch may be the darkest yet for Quiñones (Raymund), who kicks off the last stretch of episodes “off the wagon and off the force.”

Curb Your Enthusiasm

Debuted: October 15, 2000
Finale date: April 7

After nearly 25 years and 12 seasons, Larry David brings his unique comedy to an end with 10 new episodes. HBO has always been open that it would take more Curb so long as David was willing, but now it appears he’s ready to move on.

Bob Hearts Abishola

Debuted: September 23, 2019
Finale date: May 13

The love story between a middle-aged compression sock salesman (Billy Gardell) and a cardiac nurse from Nigeria (Folake Olowofoyeku) ends after five seasons in May. Heading into it, all series regulars (other than the two leads) were reduced to recurring roles to cut the budget. So the cancellation isn’t a surprise, but it is the end of an era. This was Chuck Lorre’s last multi-cam standing on CBS, where his comedies once ruled the airwaves.

Young Sheldon

Debuted: September 25, 2017
Finale date: May 16

Sheldon Cooper’s origins story wraps with Season 7, bringing The Big Bang Theory spin-off up to date with the canon’s timeline. Still, it’s a bittersweet moment for fans who have watched star Iain Armitage grow up onscreen. The show’s ending also marks the end of Chuck Lorre’s reign on CBS. With Young Sheldon and Bob Hearts Abishola ending in 2024, the creative no longer has any series on The Eye.

“As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be — the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” he said in a release. “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. grown-ish

Debuted: January 3, 2018
Finale date: Summer

No one knew whether this black-ish spin-off, revolving around Zoey Johnson (Yara Shahidi) and her college adventures, would hit when it debuted. Six seasons later, college is out and it’s safe to say it was a successful experiment. The back half of the sixth and final season debuts this summer, bringing creator Kenya Barris’ black-ish universe to an official close after a decade.

What We Do in the Shadows

Debuted: March 27, 2019
Finale date: TBA

The vampiric mockumentary, based on the 2014 film of the same name, takes its last bite in 2024. FX confirmed in December that the show’s sixth season would also be its last, concluding the two-year commitment the network made back in 2022.

Blue Bloods

Debuted: September 24, 2010
Finale date: TBA

After 14 seasons, the Tom Selleck-led cop drama is ending with a two-part conclusion. The first 10-episode installment returns to CBS and Paramount+ in February, and then the final eight episodes will return as part of the fall season.

The Handmaid’s Tale

Debuted: April 26, 2017
Finale date: TBA

The dystopic series that helped put Hulu Originals on the map wraps after six seasons in 2024, closing out the story of Offred (Elisabeth Moss) and her fight against Gilead. This final stretch has been a long wait for fans. Although Hulu has not announced a premiere date, the last episode streamed in November 2022. Meanwhile, showrunner Bruce Miller is developing a sequel, The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel.

SEAL Team

Debuted: September 27, 2017
Finale date: TBA

David Boreanaz’s military drama concludes on Paramount+ in 2024 with an impressive seventh season. The show was affected by the strikes and only returned to production in December, so it might be a few more months before fans have an answer to the cliffhanger, Season 6 finale.

S.W.A.T.

Debuted: November 2, 2017
Finale date: TBA

This year marks the Hail Mary season for the Shemar Moore-led drama. CBS and Sony Television were ready to cancel the series due to financial reasons after its sixth season, despite a loyal fanbase. Those fans — and Moore in a passionate social media post — revolted, and the result is a seventh and final season to tie up the stories. Those episodes begin in February.

Star Trek: Discovery

Debuted: September 24, 2017
Finale date: TBA

The series that’s been credited as reviving the Star Trek franchise (not to mention launching the Paramount-Plus-absorbed CBS All Access) is landing after five seasons. Fans can look forward to one final journey across the galaxy when star Sonequa Martin-Green and co. return.

Big Mouth

Debuted: September 29, 2017
Finale date: TBA

When Season 8 drops in 2024, it will also be the last for this crass cartoon revolving around teenage puberty. According to an official announcement, Netflix is bidding farewell to the hormone monsters because it’s time to grow up. It has been eight years of middle school, after all. As for the show’s spin-off, Human Resources, that concluded in 2023 after a two-season run.

Cobra Kai

Debuted: May 2, 2018
Finale date: TBA

If Netflix had its way, it would still be in the Karate Kid business, but showrunners Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg decided it was time to close the Dojo. So, when the sixth season premieres, it will bring this chapter of the franchise to a close. The good news is that Hurwitz has said the creative team isn’t done with the Miyagiverse, so there could be a spin-off on the horizon.

You

Debuted: September 9, 2018
Finale date: TBA

Did anyone see this series, which romanticizes a stalker/serial killer, lasting beyond one season? Lifetime certainly didn’t, which is why it parted ways with the show in 2018. However, You and series star Penn Badgley certainly performed well for Netflix, prompting four more seasons. It’s also worth noting that, although the upcoming fifth season will be the show’s last, the decision to end the show was made by its producing team and not the streamer.

My Brilliant Friend

Debuted: November 18, 2018
Finale date: TBA

The television version of Elena Ferrante’s sweeping Neapolitan novels ends with its upcoming fourth season. It’s a logical conclusion, given that the series has always followed the four-book trajectory. Fittingly, this final season adapts The Story of the Lost Child, bringing this tale of a 60-year friendship between two women to a satisfying end.

Station 19

Debuted: March 22, 2018
Finale date: TBA

The Jason George and Jaina Lee Ortiz-led Grey’s Anatomy spin-off is closing shop after seven seasons when it debuts in March. Although the news surprised some fans when it was announced at the end of 2023, the show leaves behind its own legacy, including multiple crossovers with Grey’s and a 100th-episode celebration. Notably, with the show ending, Grey’s is now the last Shonda Rhimes series left standing over at ABC.

Yellowstone

Debuted: June 20, 2018
Finale date: TBA

This western amassed an impressive audience over the years, with more and more viewers catching on to the family drama and the cutthroat Duttons as the show continued. It was so successful that it also inspired three prequels and two sequels. So why ground the mothership? Publicized scheduling disputes between production and star Kevin Costner are said to be the reason. So, when the back half of Season 5 returns in January, those episodes will also be the last.

The Umbrella Academy

Debuted: February 15, 2019
Finale date: TBA

When Brellies settle in for the next Hargreeves adventure, they’ll do so knowing it will be the show’s last. The Toronto-shot, Elliot Page-starring series wraps after four seasons, which showrunner Steve Blackman has said is a logical and satisfactory endpoint. Looking ahead, it seems as though Netflix is still eager to be in the Blackman business: the streamer has extended its partnership with the creative, who is now working on an adaptation of the PlayStation game Horizon Zero Dawn and a sci-fi series called Orbital.

Star Wars: The Bad Batch

Debuted: May 4, 2021
Finale date: TBA

The animated Star Wars series wraps the journeys of its central characters (and its cast of clones) with the third and final season in 2024. In true Star Wars fashion, fans are already speculating which storylines may tie into other franchise offerings, and how the finale will leave this chosen family in their concluding moments.

Superman & Lois

Debuted: February 23, 2021
Finale date: TBA

The last superhero show standing over at The CW ends its run when the 10-episode, fourth season takes flight in 2024. The network has been going in a new direction ever since its Nexstar Media Group takeover, while production company Warner Bros. is focusing on DC Comics projects within James Gunn’s universe. Unfortunately for fans, this mature version of Superman does not fall within it.

Mo

Debuted: August 24, 2022
Finale date: TBA

It was a short but sweet journey for Mo Amer and his Netflix series, but Mo will have a proper ending when the second season drops. The comedy is loosely based on Amer’s experiences and follows Palestinian refugee Mo Najjar in his journey to gain asylum in Houston. That monumental event is expected to take place by the end of Season 2.

Vikings: Valhalla

Debuted: February 25, 2022
Finale date: TBA

Jeb Stuart’s continuation of the Vikings universe ends when the third season drops, completing a two-season renewal contract made in 2022. According to Stuart, three seasons is a natural end point for the stories he’s imagined of the legendary Vikings Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett), Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter), and Freydis Eriksdotter (Frida Gustavsson).

Andor

Debuted: September 21, 2022
Finale date: TBA

This Star Wars series was always meant to be a two-season arc, so its ending is no surprise to fans. The second season will lead into the events viewers saw back in 2016’s Rogue One, bringing Cassian Andor’s (Diego Luna) journey full circle.
