Joseph "Mang0" Marquez was officially banned from Supernova 2025, one of the largest Smash events, due to his behavior at Beerio Kart World Cup on June 21, 2025.
Cloud9 terminated their 11-year partnership with him last month after footage from Ludwig Ahgren’s Beerio Kart (Mario Kart World Cup) event surfaced on the internet.
His act of harassing multiple streamers in an intoxicated state prompted Twitch to suspend his channel as well.
Weeks after the significant restrictions, he shared an update of his sobriety journey and announced that he has not consumed alcohol for the past three weeks.
Following the series of suspensions, the Super Smash Bros player lost a significant percentage of his average income.
According to a Dexerto report, his earnings got slashed by almost 80% after his org canceled their deal.
Due to a decline in monthly income, attending rehab to get over alcoholism seemed like a costly affair.
At the same time, he could not get accustomed to AA meetings either. However, the obstacles did not stop him from recovering.
Several professionals contacted Joseph to help him for free. Interestingly, he is eyeing undergoing regular therapy after he manages to receive his insurance.
On the other hand, the Smash pro has been learning from videos and available information circulating online.
On June 22, Mang0 sat for a livestream session with his followers, opening up about how his life trajectory had changed after the controversial Mario Kart event.
He updated his fans about his life and recovery journey. Sharing about feeling good about where he was at that moment, he said,
"I'm proud, and I know it’s not a lot, but I am three weeks sober today. Not a sip of alcohol and I don’t really have an urge to drink."
Detailing how he has seen alcohol over the years and how he is treating himself now, he also chimed in:
"I see alcohol as a friend and I feel like it just f*cked me. I can't even look at alcohol. It's just like 'I can't talk to you right now.' The best I can do is 'Nah man, like.. We have had some good time but, too many times you have f*cked me.'"
During the live broadcast on Tuesday, the famous content creator also revealed that he got drunk only once after the major fiasco broke the internet.
And that was the last time he had booze before his path to sobriety.
While interacting with his online viewers, he disclosed,
"Since the incident, I've only been drunk one time. One time. Now, before you judge me, it was 4-5 days after and I sat right in this chair, drank a whole bottle of Gin, and I just sat here and cried till like 4 AM. No words. No screens. No nothing"
On June 21, Ludwig hosted a grand Beerio Kart event with a drinking twist. The celebration was organized to mark the launch of Mario Kart World on Switch 2.
According to the game regulations, all participants were required to finish their drinks before concluding their online races.
Amid the thrill and excitement of competition, inebriated Mang0 was found being impolite and harassing women streamers.
Clips from the game began making rounds on the internet immediately, prompting major fallout with brands and bans on multiple online platforms.
Netizens slammed the gamer and Ludwig for the consequences of the drinking game and called out the inappropriate arrangements.
The next day, Mang0 shared a thread of apologies and expressions of sorrow, a day after he had been involved in making infamous gestures to other streamers.
On June 22, he admitted to his offensive conduct and penned long posts on the X platform, claiming his next steps to overcome this dark phase and embrace sobriety.
With every post on the platform, he held himself accountable and expressed his regret for his behavior.
In a long and heartfelt acceptance post on X, the YouTuber opened up, saying,
"I want to start by being real about what happened. I made multiple people feel uncomfortable while drunk at Beerio Kart. There’s no excuse. It was messed up, it hurt people, and I crossed a line. I take full responsibility for it. I’ve already reached out to the people involved to try to make things right. "
Looking back at how the incident affected his family and loved ones, particularly his son, Mang0 further noted,
"I also let down my family and close friends. I want to apologize to my son. I know this is something he’ll have to carry. And Joseph, if you ever see this, I’m sorry. I’m going to be better for both of us."
Taking the entire blame on his shoulders and holding himself responsible for how the event went down the previous night, he expressed his sorrow, adding,
"Next, I don't want anyone to defend me for my actions. I was in the wrong 100 percent and there's no one to blame but myself. I crossed lines/boundaries and no matter the circumstances, once you make someone else uncomfortable, even if you think what you're doing isn't bad in the moment, lines get crossed and its just over. It's on me and not anyone else."
The famous internet personality apologized for the way he reacted during the game and dedicated this long letter to everyone he has hurt in this process.
He also reflected on losing his association with C9, sharing,
"I lost my C9 family. People I’ve known for years. People I care about. That phone call with Jack hit hard. It felt like I let down someone who was like a second dad to me. I still don’t really know how to think about it."
From Twitch to C9 to Supernova, his act of boundary violations cost him restrictions on several high-profile digital platforms.
Supporting the bans on him for his wrongdoings, he wrote,
"As for the ban, I support it. I’ve always wanted what is best for Melee. If I never get to come back, I accept that. What matters most now is fixing what I can and making sure I never become that person again. Trust takes time, and some people might never want me around again. I respect that fully."
Determined to work on himself and bounce back with a clear image, he opened up about immersing himself in a process of "real recovery."
On June 22, he confirmed that he had begun researching rehab centres and options for his healing journey.
While sharing his optimistic approach to transform his life for the better, fulfilling days, he accepted that his "relationship with alcohol was always a problem."
Mang0 confessed to turning alcoholism into an easy habit to "brush a lot of the behavior and comments off." He continued:
"That lifestyle has caught up to me and I need to make a change for the better, and the only way to do that is to move forward and accept that I need to leave the person who I was behind. For the near future, I’m going to take a step back from streaming and social media."
The internet sensation has chosen his recovery path insightfully and has been thriving on his journey to sobriety.
