Renowned actress Margot Kidder tied the knot to actor John Heard in August 1979. However, their marriage was an extremely short-lived union, lasting for less than a week.
The Superman-famed star was married three times, and Heard was her second husband. Their companionship as newlyweds concluded with a separation after just six days of celebrating their wedding nuptials.
John Heard is remembered as a versatile character actor, famous for her performances in both indie classics and blockbuster hits.
Before John, she was married to novelist Thomas McGuane and French director Philippe de Broca.
In 1975, 27-year-old rising star Margot Kidder married novelist Thomas McGuane, as Entertainmentnow confirmed.
The former couple was together for around two years and welcomed their only daughter, Maggie McGuane. Their divorce was finalized in 1977.
Apart from being a well-known American novelist, Thomas also donned the hat of a director and screenwriter. He received accolades for books such as The Sporting Club and Ninety-Two in the Shade.
He showcased his expertise in writing essays, novels, screenplays, and short fiction as well.
Not just in their personal lives, Kidder and McGuane spent time together professionally as well.
The actress featured in her first husband's first directorial project, Ninety-Two in the Shade..
In a 2010 conversation with the Toronto Star, Margot looked back on her romance with Thomas McGuane, as Entertainmentnow cited. She shared:
"I fell in love with (him) in the ’70s and after we got married, we moved to Montana and he expected me to turn into a submissive ranch wife and serve the great writer. That kind of put an expiration date on that particular project. We did the Taylor-Burton thing for a few years and were either madly in love or madly in hate, but we did make a beautiful daughter."
Admitting that she realized that their marriage "wasn’t working," she revealed that she was "so addicted to him, deeply in love with him" that she could not simply leave him.
However, their marriage took a dramatic turn after she received the opportunity to work on the legendary Superman film.
Recalling the moment when she informed Thomas about the role, she candidly opened up about his unexpected reaction, adding,
"Then I told him I’d been asked to do Superman and it was going to mean I had to live in London for six months. He looked at me kind of funny, asked me if I was going to do it and when I said yes, I woke up the next morning and he’d packed all my things and moved them outside."
Thomas McGuane discussed his failed marriage with Margot Kidder during an old interview with The Post, noting,
"We did not have a successful marriage. We had a brief marriage, and I left it with a tremendous sense of relief. It was Superman time, it was the '70s. It was a hit-and-run sort of era."
The outlet also reported him sharing during a chit-chat,
"I don’t even know how to react to it. I’ve barely seen her in over 20 years. It's a shame she’s had the trouble that she has. I'm sorry she continues to have the feelings toward me and my family that she’s expressed. I’m afraid I can’t tell you why [she has them]. My biggest concern is that this is extremely painful for Maggie."

In 1979, Margot Kidder tied the knot once again. She married actor John Heard on August 24 and ended their marriage just after six days.
Their divorce was officially settled next year in December.
Newspapers.com reported a 1979 article featured in The Baltimore Sun. As per Entertainmentnow, a gossip columnist named Liz Smith wrote,
"Superman’s girlfriend, Margot Kidder, got married last Friday afternoon in the rain-soaked Manhattan garden of a friend, to actor John Heard. I don't have to tell you that Margot is hot in 'The Amityville Horror,' and John is hot in playing in 'Othello' in Central Park, and that when two people decide to get married, the weather is the last thing on their minds."
His portrayal of Peter McCallister in Home Alone (1990) is considered one of his most iconic on-screen characters.
John was also in the cast for its sequel, Home Alone 2 (1992).
As per his IMDb page, his impressive portfolio includes excellent projects such as G.R. Point, Othello, Split, The Chehkov Sketchbook, Total Abandon, Glass Menagerie, Searching for Fortune, Outsiders, Counting for Thunder, Graffiti, The Last Rampage, The Tale, and The Last Yankee.
In July 2017, Heard died of a heart attack at 71 in Palo Alto, California.
Shortly after working together on the film titled Louisiana, Margot and Philippe tied the knot in 1983. However, they called it quits roughly after a year in 1984.
Entertainmentnow cited her 1986 conversation with the Los Angeles Times, where she called her final marriage "a bit impulsive."
Reflecting on their decision to exchange vows, the Black Christmas star described,
"That was a bit impulsive, I’m afraid. Not a little irresponsible. We just weren’t meant to be married to each other. We just got carried away. But the honeymoon in Kenya was spectacular."
Recalling the time she enjoyed in Kenya, she also expressed,
"I fell so in love with that country. I really felt I knew it. Other people have told me they had the same feeling about Kenya. I just know I’m dying to go back. And on days when I’m fed up with this business, I fantasize that I'll wind up there, conducting safaris. Writing too, of course."
Philippe de Broca was the director of Louisiana starring Margot. He is widely recognized for working on cult comedies such as That Man from Rio and King of Hearts.
Margot's love life was highly publicized back in the day. During her acting career spanning decades, she was romantically linked with famous personalities such as Brian De Palm, Steven Spielberg, Tom Mankiewicz, and former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.
On May 13, 2018, Margot Kidder passed away at the age of 69. She died at her home in Livingston, Montana. According to a BBC report, the Park County Coroner's office officially ruled her death a suicide, citing it as "a result of a self-inflicted drug and alcohol overdose."
Later, Kidder's family issued a statement with the coroner's office and left a message for "those suffering from mental illnesses, addiction and/or suicidal thoughts."
They requested the affected individuals to "seek appropriate counselling and treatment."
Margot reportedly struggled with a mental health crisis for a major part of her life and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder as well.
While she initially refused to accept the truth initially and refused treatment, she realized the importance of prioritizing mental health and advocated for it after facing dark chapters in her life.
The late star battled the disease publicly. At that time, her diagnosis was widely reported, especially after she disappeared for a few days and was found in Los Angeles.
After three failed marriages, The Dion Brothers actress found solace in being with dogs. Though she never found romance again, she spent her remaining years working on her mental health challenges and raising awareness on the same.
