A highly anticipated trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film The Mandalorian & Grogu, originally expected to release on Friday, has reportedly been delayed following internal turmoil at Disney. According to reports, the postponement is related to ABC's contentious September 17 suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! due to comments Kimmel made regarding the "MAGA gang" and the suspect in the Charlie Kirk murder case.
Although Disney has not provided an official explanation, a source asserted that the trailer delay was directly related to the circumstance, implying that the business wanted to avoid attracting more attention at a time when ABC and Kimmel are still embroiled in scandal.
“The Disney trailer [today] was supposed to be The Mandalorian and Grogu,” Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman said as much on Friday.
“Trailer [has] been delayed amid all the Kimmel stuff. No new date yet.” Richtman said the trailer that was supposed to be released online on Friday was believed to be the same one that was presented to live viewers during this past April's Star Wars Celebration in Japan.
During the September 15, 2025, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, host Jimmy Kimmel commented on the investigation into the assassination of far-right activist Charlie Kirk, saying MAGA supporters were eager to distance themselves from the suspect. Following these remarks, FCC chair Brendan Carr appeared on a podcast urging ABC to act against Kimmel. ABC announced Kimmel's indefinite suspension from the network just hours later on Wednesday. The move intensified debate about political commentary on late-night television and the influence of external pressure on broadcast decisions.
So, a few days ago I posted which trailers were slated for the week. Two came out as planned, but the third one which I confirmed was The Mandalorian and Grogu and not Send Help, got delayed amid all the Jimmy Kimmel stuff. Yes, that was the reason. No new date yet pic.twitter.com/9vcqnLbfNz

ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel has unexpectedly rippled into other Disney divisions, reportedly prompting Lucasfilm to delay the first trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Disney asked Lucasfilm to hold back the trailer “amid various controversies around the late-night host,” though the reasoning for linking the two events remains unclear.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman claims that Disney requested that Lucasfilm withhold the trailer "amid various controversies around the late-night host," however, it is unclear whether the two incidents are related. In response, Nexstar, a major local media outlet, "indefinitely" canceled Jimmy Kimmel Live, deeming the remarks "offensive." ABC promptly suspended the host.
Richtman confirmed that the postponed trailer was for The Mandalorian & Grogu and said, “Yes, that was the reason.” This suggests Disney delayed it to avoid further controversy. There is no updated schedule for the trailer's release from the studio.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is still scheduled for release on May 22, 2026, next year, despite reports that a large trailer has been delayed.
