Soham Parekh, an Indian software developer, is facing criticism after several US startups accused him of lying about his work commitments. The allegations caught attention when Suhail Doshi, co-founder and ex-CEO of Mixpanel, publicly stated that Parekh had misled multiple companies by secretly holding full-time jobs with them at the same time, as per Hindustan Times.
Doshi said his own startup hired Parekh but fired him within a week because of trust issues. After being let go, Parekh messaged Doshi to apologize. Doshi later shared his side of the story through a series of posts on X, where he highlighted what he called dishonest work practices.
After the posts came out, more startup founders shared their experiences. Leaders from companies like Lindy, Fleet AI, and Antimetal said they had also hired Parekh, only to find out later that he was working with multiple organizations at once. At least five startups flagged similar issues, hinting at a larger problem.
Reports suggested Parekh got jobs by showcasing his abilities to hiring managers, but didn’t reveal he had other commitments. Some companies noted skipped meetings or inconsistent work, which they later linked to him juggling multiple roles at the same time. While no startups have made official legal claims public, similar stories raised concerns about his professional behavior and whether remote hiring processes were effective.
Parekh earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Mumbai and a master's from Georgia Institute of Technology, as per his resume. Allegations, however, have raised doubts about whether some of these credentials and past job roles are genuine. Doshi even suggested that large parts of Parekh’s resume might be inaccurate.
This situation has sparked conversations across the startup and tech worlds about remote work ethics, moonlighting, and the ways companies verify employee backgrounds. While moonlighting, or taking on more than one job, is not necessarily unethical, the debate around Parekh focuses on a lack of honesty and the possible violation of work contracts.
People have pointed out that the situation highlights the problems with remote hiring.
So far, Parekh has not commented on the accusations. The companies involved haven’t shared what they’ll do next.
