Kit Connor, star of Netflix original Heartstopper, says he felt "forced" to come out as bisexual.

The 18-year-old actor did not say exactly why he felt pushed to reveal his sexuality, but the tweet came after Connor was accused of queerbaiting by Twitter users when photos emerged of him holding hands with A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow co-star Maia Reficco.

"I'm bi. Congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. I think some of you missed the point of the show," Connor wrote. Based on the webcomic and graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman, Heartstopper tells the story of Nick Nelson (Connor), a popular rugby player, and recently outed student Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) as they develop unexpected feelings for one another.

Show creator Oseman shared her support for Connor on Monday, addressing his post on Twitter. "I truly don’t understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes," she wrote. "I hope all those people are embarrassed as F*CK. Kit you are amazing."

Heartstopper has been renewed for a second and third season by Netflix. The first season is currently streaming.
