“People didn’t want to root for me”- RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 10 winner Ginger Minj opens up about facing backlash amid a “witch hunt”

Ginger Minj claimed victory on RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars Season 10. Competing across four different seasons of the Drag Race franchise—Season 7, All Stars 2, All Stars 6 and now All Stars 10—she achieved her long-desired win. In the final lip-sync battle she went up against runner-up Jorgeous and came out on top. The season wrapped up with Ginger earning the crown and a $200,000 prize.

After winning Ginger gave an exclusive interview to Entertainment Weekly. She talked about the obstacles she encountered both on the show and in her personal life. She came back to the competition following a serious health scare that put her in the hospital.

During that time she thought about whether she would make it through. This ordeal, she said, helped push her to go all in and focus on the competition.

Ginger shared that the season brought her a lot of intense feedback from fans and her fellow queens. She said it felt overwhelming and even compared it to being caught in a “witch hunt.” In her words, the public seemed to turn against her leaving her to be both her hardest critic and her strongest cheerleader. She said,

“I felt like Elphaba throughout the entire competition because it felt like I had all these powers I didn’t have a grasp on at the beginning of the season. Particularly, by a lot of the fanbase, it was kind of like a witch hunt. People didn’t want to root for me, and it felt like I had to be my biggest critic and my biggest cheerleader.”

Ginger Minj reflects on growth, inspiration, and group dynamics after all stars 10 win
