HBO orders Storm Over Brooklyn documentary about a black teen who was killed by a group of white youths

According to Variety, the film about black teenager Yusuf Hawkins, who was shot and murdered in Brooklyn in 1989, "will explore a crime that shocked New York and the wider U.S. Hawkins’ murder led to marches and protests that contributed to the ousting of New York City Mayor Ed Koch in favor of David Dinkins, who became the city’s first — and as of now, only — African American mayor." The film by Muta’Ali is part of an initiative to promote diversity in feature documentaries.
