Queen Latifah talks about CBS cancelling The Equalizer

Queen Latifah opens up after CBS cancels The Equalizer before season finale. Latifah played the lead role and helped make the show happen with her longtime partner Shakim Compere. She shared her thanks on social media. Along with a powerful picture of her character, she looked back on the journey of bringing Robyn McCall to life. She said it was like a dream come true and gave a shout-out to the creative team, crew, and most of the fans for their steady support.

“Shakim [Compere] and I at Flavor Unit are always excited to bring these kinds of roles and projects to life — and then we just hope you love them as much as we do,” she wrote. “’The Equalizer’ blew past every dream we had for it, and having the opportunity to do this for five seasons honestly feels surreal.”

    She also wrote,

“Thank you to our amazing cast, crew, and producers and writers! And I can’t say enough about the FANS! Y’all have been so loyal, so loud, and so ride-or-die—and that’s exactly why we keep doing this. We can’t thank you enough. It means the world to us.”

“Don’t worry—I’ll be back kicking ass in something new real soon,” she added

Queen Latifah’s Action Drama Bids Farewell After Five Seasons

After five seasons on CBS, the action drama The Equalizer is coming to an end signaling the finale for both fans and cast. The show starring Queen Latifah as the tough Robyn McCall, made its mark within the long-running franchise and became a Sunday night TV favorite.

CBS announced the show's end on May 2 just two days before the season five finale. While this decision is part of a larger network shake-up that includes ending shows like S.W.A.T. FBI: International, and The Neighborhood, the news still shocked many. Reports suggest that a drop in viewers after a time slot change played a role in this decision, as ratings fell from nearly 8 million to about 6 million.

The series, a modern take on the 1980s show, brought new life and direction to the franchise, which Denzel Washington's films had earlier revived. Starting in 2021, the show caught on with its mix of action, plots about justice, and deep feelings. It also stood out by putting a woman of color in the lead of a story that men headed. Off camera, the cast grew close in a way that went past their work.

Lorraine Toussaint, who played Viola "Aunt Vi" Marsette once said how close the group had become over time calling their bond like a real family. This friendship made the show feel more real and helped viewers connect with it.

Though The Equalizer is coming to an end, Queen Latifah gave a hint that viewers haven't seen the last of her in action-packed parts. Her career stands out for its ability to change and bounce back, and she continues to be a strong figure in front of and behind the camera — and her fans should look forward to more in the future.
