Hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion shuts down claims that she was banned from the Met Gala for using her phone during the annual high-profile fashion event. During her Tuesday, May 13, interview with People magazine, the songstress reflected on this year's gala.
Noting that people made up the rumors, the 30-year-old told the publication:
"Y'all made that up and ran with it. They love making (stuff up). Anna (Wintour) loves me, babe. That's why my phone was out."
The rapper, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, was referencing an Instagram post that she shared, which was taken during the gala. Notably, the event has a long-standing no-phone rule. It prompted speculations that her phone usage got her barred from future galas.
On Monday, May 5, Megan Thee Stallion took to her Instagram to share a glimpse of her 2025 Met Gala experience. It featured herself, Doechii, and WNBA star Angel Reese trying the food at the event. In the video, the Mamushi hitmaker explained that they were "not supposed" to have their phones, but they were "doing it anyway."
The video also included clips taken throughout the evening, as celebrities like Tessa Thompson and Cynthia Erivo posed with Megan inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The latter was heard telling them she "snuck" in her phone.
Addressing the rumors, Megan told People magazine:
"No. We're gonna dead these rumors right now, OK? People are like, 'Oh my God, Megan, you got banned from the Met Gala. No, I didn't, babe. Like that's not true."
Megan wore a dazzling silver gown custom-designed by Michael Kors at the 2025 Gala. She paired the ensemble with an extravagant white fur coat. She topped off the look with a tiered ponytail hairdo inspired by Josephine Baker.
Talking about wearing the heavy hairstyle, Megan told the outlet it wasn't that difficult. Noting that her neck was "pretty strong," Megan Thee Stallion added:
"I wear at least 10-pound wigs all the time. I put a lot of bundles in my hair, so my neck is pretty strong."
She quipped:
"I'm surprised (my neck) doesn't have abs."
Megan Thee Stallion was far from the only attendee to break the no-phone policy. Actress Laura Harrier (of Spider-Man: Homecoming fame) shared a bathroom selfie with a bunch of attendees, including Andrew Scott, Sarah Snook, Keith Powers, and Monica Barbaro, among several others.
Lewis Hamilton, who was one of this year's co-chairs at the gala, also snuck in another group selfie taken at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's bathrooms. This one featured Tracee Elise Ross, Evan Ross, Cynthia Erivo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Ayo Edebiri, among others.
Megan Thee Stallion recently partnered with Airbnb to create the Otaku Hottie Quest experience. It entails twelve guests joining the rapper in Los Angeles on June 12 in an immersive one-day anime and gaming experience.
The guests would get an opportunity to spend the day with Megan, known for her love for anime, doing various activities like cosplay, one-on-one Xbox game battles, completing a floor-is-lava course, and even making ramen with the musician.
In addition to Megan Thee Stallion, celebrities like Chance the Rapper, Doechii, and Sabrina Carpenter have also teamed up with Airbnb for similar curated experiences.
