Lizzo has revealed her diet in her latest cover story for Women's Health magazine. The issue, which was published on July 1, 2025, showcased her fitness journey, eating habits, and past struggles with food, and how she changed her mindset.
The Grammy-winning artist was vegan from 2020 to 2023. She recalled feeling "bloated" and "lightheaded" after eating soy, mock meat, bread, etc. Recently, while appearing on the June 19, 2025, episode of the Just Trish podcast, Lizzo told the host, Trisha Paytas, that while she was vegan, she used to eat nearly 3,000-5,000 calories per day because the food never made her feel full.
Lizzo changed her diet and added animal-based protein and healthy vegetables as she ate chicken sausages, two scrambled eggs, and a cauliflower hash brown for breakfast. The singer shifted between lettuce wraps stuffed with tuna, sliced chicken breast, and shredded Thai chicken salad for her lunch.
Lizzo eats her dinner early, before 5 p.m., since she has GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). She told the media outlet that she prefers eating turkey meatloaf with mashed cauliflower and green beans, and if she doesn't eat early, the digestive disorder makes acid "roll up" to her throat.
For snacking, the singer prefers low-sugar Greek yogurt with honey, blueberries, and blackberries. Lizzo also has completely quit consuming Frappuccinos and has replaced them with one cup of coffee with vanilla protein per day.
The Juice singer also told Women's Health that she sometimes gets cravings, and instead of ignoring them, she indulges occasionally in seafood, doughnuts, and chicken tenders. She stated that for her, "true health" is all about a balanced diet.
Over the past year, netizens have speculated that the singer has supposedly used Ozempic, a medicine for type 2 diabetes that is often used by people to drastically lose weight. Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, told Trisha Paytas in her podcast that she has tried the medication along with other weight loss drugs.
She admitted that she wanted to try everything, but Jefferson clarified that she didn't continue using the medications, and instead controlled her diet to reduce her body fat. The singer mentioned that animal-based protein and byproducts made a big change in her health.
Jefferson also told Women's Health magazine that she used to think about getting surgeries, but she didn't get any procedures done. She also said that she's proud of herself and anyone who has managed to lose weight, either with Ozempic or through surgery.
Jefferson also told the media outlet that during her Bali trip in August 2024, she met a Tibetan monk. The singer claimed the monk motivated her and helped her.
"He was like, 'You worry too much about other people. You need to trust yourself. You need to tell yourself you are incredible, prioritize your ideas, and don't let someone tell you they know what's best for you more than you.' After talking to him, I had this clarity; nothing could shake me anymore," the singer stated.
Although Lizzo has not shared how much she weighs currently, she revealed on Instagram in January 2025 that she has lost 16% of her body weight so far with a three-meals-a-day diet and daily workout.
Meanwhile, the singer's last release was her third mixtape, My Face Hurts from Smiling, which was released on June 27, 2025. It is unclear when her next album, Love in Real Life, will be released.
