I Know What You Did Last Summer, the reboot of the eponymous 1997 slasher hit, welcomed back some legacy characters. Two of those are Jennifer Love Hewitt's Julie James and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s Ray Bronson, the survivors of the Southport massacre. Do Revenge director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has helmed the film from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky.

Since its release on July 18, 2025, fans of I Know What You Did Last Summer have been curious about the possibility of a sequel.

In an interview with USA Today published on July 20, 2025, Hewitt opened up about her return if a sequel is made.

"I'm definitely down for it. That would be so fun, everything working out as it should," she said.

In the same interview, when Robinson was asked if a sequel was on the books, she replied:

"Hopefully, that is something that people want."

The esteemed filmmaker also stated that she has a "clear" idea of what she wants to show in the next movie, and is totally in for making a sequel if she is given the opportunity.

In her response to an X user's question about a sequel in May 2025, Robinson wrote:

"if you all go see it and love it!!! sequel is in all of your hands. im ready for it"

So, whether or not there will be a sequel to the slasher film depends on its performance, although the post-credit scene has left plenty of room for one.

To put it simply, this film has to do well at the box office for the producers to greenlight a sequel.

Jennifer Love Hewitt on sharing the screen with Brandy Norwood again in I Know What You Did Last Summer

Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brandy Norwood appeared as roommates in 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. While Hewitt appeared as Julie James, Norwood played Karla Wilson.

Norwood's cameo in the new movie's post-credit scene was a surprise because she had denied any such possibility before the release.

In the above-mentioned interview with USA Today, Hewitt said it was "so special" to work with Norwood again for the first time in almost three decades. Hewitt added:

"She and I just kept looking at each other going, 'Is that you? Oh, my God, what are we doing here?'"

    She further said:

"Karla, for Julie, is probably the most special person in her life, because she's the one person who is still here (and) knows everything that she's been through, but is also her ride or die. She's not scared of anything. She's probably the one character that matches Julie's gumption."

What happens in I Know What You Did Last Summer post-credit scene?

Karla is one of the survivors of the hook-wielding killer. In the post-credit scene, Karla expresses her concern for Julie to her husband while watching the news report of the recent murders.

On cue, Julie shows up at her door with a new threatening note.

Julie shows Karla a picture of the two of them in which the latter's face is crossed out, and the note that reads: "It isn't over." Karla is unfazed by all this as she says, "Who are we f***ing up this time?", to which Julie replies, "I was really hoping you were going to say that."

This post-credit scene of I Know What You Did Last Summer has left fans hopeful for a sequel, which may or may not happen depending on the reception of this movie.
