Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is a live-action adventure comedy film that brings to life the fourth-wall-breaking explorer Dora, the protagonist of the popular children's animated franchise. Based on Chris Gifford's franchise, the film is directed by Alberto Belli (The House of Flowers) from a script by JT Billings (Are You Afraid of the Dark?).

Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado is a sequel to 2019's Dora and the Lost City of Gold, which starred Isabela Merced as the lead actress. The new movie sees Dora and her cousin Diego embark on a journey to the Amazon Rainforest in search of a legendary fallen star, which they must find before evil forces.

Released on July 2, 2025, on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, the movie was filmed in several different locations across Colombia.

Filming locations of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado

Principal shooting of Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado began in July 2024 and went on for four months in Colombia. Federico Cantini served as the cinematographer for this movie. Not only was the movie filmed in Colombia, but it also features several actors from there.

In an interview with EFE published on July 2, 2025, Mariana Garzón, who plays Dora's friend Naiya, opened up about her experience of filming in the forest.

"We were sweating all day, with our legs full of mosquito bites and very tired. But then they would say 'action!' and it was like, 'Ok, we have to do it,'" Garzón said.

Such real conditions helped add authenticity to the film and the characters' reactions. According to an El Magazin Cultural article published in June 2025, the movie was filmed on location in Bogotá, Cundinamarca, and Antioquia.

State-of-the-art studios, rural landscapes, and natural parks are featured. That said, the exact locations where filming for Dora and the Search for Sol Dorado was done are not known.

    1) Bogotá, Colombia

Bogotá is the capital and largest city in Colombia. Located in the center of Colombia on a high plateau known as the Bogotá savanna, it houses the country's most important central offices, as well as many universities and research institutions.

Bogotá hosts its own film festival every year in late October. The city's versatile urban landscape has served as the filming location of numerous movies and shows over the years, for instance, Mile 22 and Narcos.

    2) Cundinamarca, Colombia

The state of Cundinamarca was abolished in 1886, and the area is now known as the Cundinamarca Department, one of the 32 administrative divisions of Colombia. It is located in the country's center, and its capital city is Bogotá. Zipaquirá, Nemocón Salt Mine, and Guatavita are some notable filming locations in this department.

    3) Antioquia, Colombia

Located in the central northwestern part of Colombia, Antioquia is also one of the 32 departments. It was a sovereign state before 1886. This is a mountainous territory, and most of these mountains are part of the Andes mountain range.

Antioquia shares part of its northern border with the Caribbean Sea, and its capital city is Medellín, Colombia's second-largest city. Some movies and shows filmed in this region are Loving Pablo and Escobar: Paradise Lost.
