Comedian and provocateur Ziwe wasted no time getting down to business in the first episode of her new Showtime series Sunday night, sitting down with a group of four real-life white, middle-aged women named Karen.
How do they feel about their name having become shorthand for angry, entitled, sometimes racist white woman? In short, some are more accepting than others.
Where one Karen feels it's a small sacrifice to make for racial justice, another argues that calling people Karens is racist, earning a Jim Halpert-worthy reaction from Ziwe. The same Karen takes the bait when asked if Karen's lives matter by responding "If Karen's lives don't matter, no lives matter."
A third Karen sums it up "Most Karens are good people. You know, have I called a manager because something wasn't right? Maybe a handful of times."
Why the Karens are unmasked in the clipo while Ziwe wears a mask isn't clear, but it only adds to proceedings.
Ziwe airs on Showtime Sunday nights at 11:00 PM ET.
