Pastor Marvin Winans recently went viral on social media for seemingly scoffing at the donation of one of his Perfecting Church’s members. The award-winning gospel singer was seen reprimanding an individual in a clip shared by Baller Alert.

Winans is well-known as the founder of Perfecting Church in May 1989 in Detroit, Michigan, the city where he was born and grew up. Marvin began his musical career as a member of a band with his brothers, Ronald, Carvin (his twin), and Michael. Initially, during the ‘70s, the group was called The Testimonial Singers, but later they came to be known as The Winans.

The Detroit gospel quartet garnered mainstream fame throughout the 1980s and 1990s and was also signed to the legendary record producer Quincy Jones’ label, Qwest Records. While Marvin became a Pastor in 1989, he continued as a gospel singer with The Winans and later pursued a solo career. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Marvin has a net worth of $5 million, accumulated over a five-decade-long career.

The Grammy winner has been married twice and has two sons – Marvin Jr. and Josiah – and a stepson, Mario "Skeeter.” Marvin Winans was previously married to gospel singer Viviane "Vickie" Winans. Their marriage lasted 16 years and ended in 1995. In 2022, Marvin married his second wife, Deneen Carter, a year after announcing their engagement.

Internet users criticize Marvin Winans after he seemingly derides a church member for donating $1,200

In a viral clip from a congregation at Perfecting Church, the celebrated gospel singer-pastor was seen interacting with a member. After the churchgoer stated that she is donating $1,000 with an additional $235, Marvin Winans expressed his apparent disdain:

“That’s only $1,200. [the member replies, ‘Yes.’] Y’all are not listening to what I’m saying. If you have a 1,000 plus a 1,000.”

The woman stated that she will work on the other $800. Winans replied:

“Well, that ain’t what I asked you to do.”

After Baller Alert posted the clip on Instagram, many quickly criticized Winans over his reaction to the donation.

“The way I would’ve snatched back that $1200 check!!! Go play with somebody else,” @jazzma_kendrick remarked.

“This the reason ppl don’t go to church,” @trim_reaper95 added.

“The way I would’ve snatched my money back!!,” @bbygxrlberry commented.

“I would've took my lil gracious seed right back and exited,” @___nettaaaaaaa voiced a similar opinion.

“Problematic. Depleting the community he's supposed to be enriching,” @stephenhoward called out Marvin Winans.

However, despite the online backlash, neither Perfecting Church nor the pastor has issued a statement.
