Sade Perkins, a former member of the Houston Food Insecurity Board, is facing backlash due to her recent comments about Camp Mystic in Hunt, Texas. She uploaded a video on TikTok after the Christian summer camp was hit with flash floods, leading to the death of five young girls, while many were reported missing.
In her viral clip, Perkins was heard criticizing Camp Mystic for being a “whites-only” organization. She started by saying,
“I know I’m probably going to get cancelled for this, but Camp Mystic is a whites-only, girls’ Christian camp. They don’t even have a token Asian, they don’t have a token Black person. It is an all-white, white-only, conservative Christian camp. If you ain’t white, you ain’t right, you ain’t getting in, you ain’t going. Period.”
Sade Perkins claimed that she wanted the missing girls to be found, but continued calling out the supposedly biased media reporting. She continued,
‘It’s not to say that we don’t want the girls to be found, whatever girls that are missing. [...] But you best believe, especially in today’s political climate, if this were a group of Hispanic girls, especially with them being in East Texas, this would not be getting this type of coverage that they’re getting. No one would give a f***.”

Sade Perkins claimed that the girls would not have received the same attention if they were from a different race. She further alleged that many would have blamed the victims and called for their deportation. During her TikTok rant, Perkins also implied that the parents of the girls attending Camp Mystic were racists.
For the unversed, Sade Perkins is the Market Manager of Freedmen's Town Farmers Market in Houston. According to Fox News, the former Mayor Sylvester Turner appointed her as a member of the Houston Food Insecurity Board in 2023. Her term expired in January of this year.
After Sade Perkins’ comments went viral, the current Mayor, John Whitmire, termed them as "deeply inappropriate,” according to the Houston Chronicle. He also confirmed that there are “no plans to reappoint Perkins,” and he will permanently remove her from the board.
A TikTok video of a Houston resident went viral, criticizing Camp Mystic as an establishment. While the rescue efforts are still ongoing, Sade Perkins hopes that the missing girls will be found soon. However, she also called out the children’s parents for sending them to an “all-white” summer camp.
Perkins claimed that it was the parents’ choice to send their child to an “all-white enclave.” She also called Camp Mystic “exclusionary,” arguing that it was not open for Black and Hispanic children. Sade Perkins added,
“They want you to have sympathy for these people. They want to get out of your bed and to come out of your home and to go find these people and to donate your money to go to find these people.”
Sade Perkins further alleged,
“Meanwhile, they are deporting your family members. Meanwhile, they're setting up concentration camps and prisons for your family members. And I need you all to keep that in mind before you all get out there and put on your rain boots and go find these little girls.”
In another TikTok video, Sade Perkins doubled down on her stance, mentioning the detentions carried out by ICE. Later, she made her TikTok private, but posted a story on Facebook sharing an image of Fox News’ report. Perkins said,
“Yo, I made it to Fox News. I am gagging right now. Fox f***ing News! [...] You people are insane, and the video is still up and I still stand by ten toes down on the motherf***ing ground. That s*** is racism and white supremacy. Period. Period. Period. If it was hispanic kids, if it was LGBTQ kids that got swept away y’all wouldn’t give a f*** and the same MAGA people would be saying that they deserve it and be saying that this is god’s will. So, f*** all of y’all. This is hilarious, though.”
She then posted a screenshot of the New York Post’s article via Facebook Stories with Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by The Animals playing in the background. She also uploaded a screengrab of a news story about her removal as food insecurity board member and used the song Police State by dead prez.
As of this writing, five young girls have been confirmed dead after the recent flash flooding at Camp Mystic. At least 10 campers and one counsellor are reported to be still missing, per the authorities.
