WATCH: Rob Schneider Says Bill Murray 'Hated' '90s Saturday Night Live Cast 'With a Passion'

"He's super nice to fans. He wasn't very nice to us."
  • Bill Murray wasn't a fan of the Saturday Night Live cast in the '90s, says Rob Schneider.

During an appearance on SiriusXM's The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show, Schneider revealed that Murray may have been kind to fans, but was less than pleasant to the SNL cast when he hosted during Schneider's time as a player.

"You don't know which Bill Murray you're gonna get. The nice Bill Murray? Or the tough Bill Murray?" said Schneider. "He's super nice to fans, he wasn't very nice to us. He hated us on Saturday Night Live when he hosted. Absolutely hated us. I mean, seething..."

When asked why Murray might have harbored such hatred for them, Schneider wondered if Murray "hated Chris Farley with a passion" because the late funnyman was acting "out of control" like Murray's friend John Belushi had been before his death. "I wanna believe it's because Chris thought it was cool to be Belushi, his friend who he saw die, he thought it was cool to be that out of control. That's my interpretation, but I don't really know," said Schneider.

According to Schneider, though, Murray's loathing wasn't just reserved for Farley. "He just hated, like, all of us, pretty much. The least of the hate was to me, [and] I took great pleasure in that he hated me less, because he's my hero..." When asked how he could tell that Murray hated them, he told the hosts that "you just saw it" in Murray's energy and the "naked rage" he expressed in looks.

"He hated Sandler. Really hated Sandler too. Hated him," Schneider continued. "He just wasn't into that groove of it, you know? And Sandler was just committed to it, and just like… as soon as he would get on, you could see the audience just ate him up, you know?"

Murray was a SNL cast member for seasons 2-5, and returned to host five times from 1981 to 1999, including once in 1993, when Schneider, Farley, and Sandler were players. Schneider appeared on Saturday Night Live from 1990 to 1994.
