Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson make their first red carpet appearance in New York

Rapper Megan Thee Stallion debuted her new relationship with NBA player, Klay Thompson on the red carpet on July 16. The couple stepped out to celebrate the inaugural gala of Megan’s foundation, the Pete & Thomas Foundation in New York City. The foundation, which is named after Megan’s parents, Joseph Pete III and Holly Thomas, is focused on helping underserved communities with resources, education and housing, as per People Magazine.

While speaking to Page Six at the red carpet, the rapper described how she feels about dating the Dallas Mavericks player, and said,

“I have never dated somebody so kind. This is my first relationship where I’ve ever been with somebody who’s genuinely a nice person, and he makes me genuinely happy…I just never dated somebody like him before and I’m just grateful that he’s here by my side and he feels the same way about me.”

Megan also shared that she and Thompson had a “meet cute.” While speaking to People Magazine at the gala, she recounted,

“Oh, we met and it was such a meet cute it was like a f***ing movie. I won't tell you how and I won't tell you when, but it was a movie that he's the nicest person I've ever met in my life.”

Megan Thee Stallion and Klay Thompson took a vacation together earlier in July

A week ago, Megan Thee Stallion’s fans picked up on clues on the rapper’s Instagram page to determine that she was on a beach vacation with the Mavericks shooting guard. The image which sparked intense speculation about a relationship between Megan and Thompson was one among a series of photographs that Megan posed for in her swimsuit while lounging in a pool.

Eagle-eyed fans spotted Thompson on a lounge chair far in the background, as per Parade Magazine.

At the time, Thompson also took to social media to share snapshots from his beachside vacation, posting a story of him holding a beer, as per New York Post. However, he did not share a glimpse of Megan.

A couple of days later, Thompson posted a series of images to his Instagram page, captioning the post,

“Sweet Bells son”

In one photograph, Thompson could be seen embracing someone who appeared to be Megan, although with her back to the camera, fans couldn’t be sure. In another image, the NBA player held hands with a woman while walking on the beach.

Megan Thee Stallion’s relationship history, explored

Megan Thee Stallion was earlier in a relationship with rapper Pardison Fontaine. According to Billboard, the rapper referred to Fontaine as her “boo” during an Instagram Live in 2021.

People Magazine noted that Megan was introduced to Fontaine while they were working together on Beyoncé’s Savage remix. However, as per the news outlet, the former couple ignited break-up rumors when Megan attended a wedding in Italy in 2023 alongside soccer player Romelu Lukaku.

Later that year, Megan also released a track, Cobra, in which she alleged that Fontaine cheated on her with another woman. Megan also went on to angrily respond to Fontaine’s claims that he did not cheat while in a relationship with her, according to People Magazine.

In 2024, Megan was seen with Boston Celtics’ Torrey Craig in a since deleted TikTok video, answering questions in a ‘couples challenge,’  as per Elle.

While neither Megan nor Craig ever revealed that their relationship had ended, Elle noted that it seemed like the couple had broken up in April 2025.
