Jesy Nelson, the vibrant former Little Mix star, has opened up about a harrowing chapter of her life, carrying twins under constant medical threat. What began as sheer joy turned quickly into months of anxiety and hospital stays when she and her partner, Zion Foster, discovered their girls were identical monochorionic twins. From scary hospital visits to high-risk procedures, Jesy’s pregnancy was anything but easy.
She described being in a “constant state of fear,” never really knowing what would happen next. On top of carrying twins and dealing with all the ups and downs that come with it, Jesy revealed there was a point where she “couldn’t even walk” without feeling faint or completely drained. Fans got little glimpses of what she was going through on Instagram and in interviews, but now she’s finally opening up and sharing the full story.
Jesy Nelson didn’t sugarcoat a single moment of pregnancy. In her first TV interview since giving birth, she pulled back the curtain on those tense months, revealing that everything was tinged with the fear that something could go wrong.
Doctors diagnosed her daughters with twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a serious condition that impacts monochorionic, diamniotic pregnancies, like hers, where twins share one placenta but separate amniotic sacs. Jesy recalled how scanning appointments became opportunities to brace for bad news:
"Every time we were going for scans… it was getting a little bit worse, a little bit worse," she told ITV.
The fear wasn’t just in her mind. Jesy says she actually "couldn't even walk" after regular activities, mistaking the severe symptoms of TTTS for normal twin-pregnancy discomfort. And yes, the scans that eventually caught abnormal blood flow led to a life-saving fetoscopic laser surgery to separate shared blood vessels—no small procedure, but a necessary one to give her babies any shot at survival. They lived two weeks at a time, literally being told the next fortnight could be critical.
“I couldn’t really enjoy my pregnancy because I was constantly worried that something was going to happen,” Jesy admitted.
She even had a threatened miscarriage early on in the pregnancy, worsening the already-intense strain. By mid-May, Jesy and Zion finally welcomed their baby girls (Ocean Jade and Story Monroe) into the world. The twins arrived early at just over 31 weeks, but they came out fighting. After everything Jesy had been through, seeing them healthy felt like nothing short of a miracle. The girls had to stay in the neonatal unit for several weeks, but by the time Jesy’s birthday rolled around in June, the family was finally back home together.
It wasn’t all stress and hospital corridors, though. Jesy found moments to laugh, to thank the incredible doctors and nurses, and to let fans in on what was happening, always with a little humor, even during the scariest parts. She’s especially grateful to Dr. Ruwan Wimalasundera, the specialist who performed the surgery that gave her babies a fighting chance. Now, their life at home is filled with baby coos and late-night feeds. Jesy and Zion are still adjusting, but they’re soaking in every second. After months of fear, exhaustion, and uncertainty, she’s standing tall.
