Jeff Bridges Fights for His Life in The Old Man Trailer

Bridges plays a former CIA operative on the run in the action-packed FX series.
  • Jeff Bridges finds himself running from the FBI in the new trailer for FX's The Old Man.

Based on Thomas Perry's 2017 novel, The Old Man stars Bridges as former CIA operative Dan Chase, who has been in hiding for decades, until an assassination attempt is made on his life. The trailer shows him on the run with his dogs, trying to escape from Harold Harper (John Lithgow), the FBI's assistant director for counterintelligence. Chase and Harper share a tenuous history, and Chase is forced to face his past mistakes as he fights to survive.

Other stars include Alia Shawkat, who plays Harper's protege Angela Adams; E.J. Bonilla as CIA agent Raymond Waters; Gbenga Akinnagbe as special ops contractor Julian; and Amy Brenneman as a woman who rents a room to Chase and winds up helping him.

The Old Man was originally scheduled to premiere in 2020, but production was halted due to the pandemic. Filming resumed in Fall 2020, but paused again after Bridges was diagnosed with leukemia and received treatment. Bridges went into remission in September 2021, and production resumed in February of this year.

The Old Man premieres June 16 on FX. The seven-episode series airs weekly through July 21. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
