Freddie Gibbs has dropped Alfredo 2, his awaited album. He made it with producer Alchemist following up their 2020 project Alfredo. The album's getting noticed for its sound quality. But one song, "Lavish Habits," is grabbing headlines. It takes direct shots at rapper Gunna and media figure DJ Akademiks. In "Lavish Habits," Gibbs doesn't hold back. He aims sharp words at Gunna, saying,

"Gunna dissed me & took a plea, he a rat b**tard."

This line brings up their old beef again.

Their fight started when Gibbs called out Gunna for being on a Crime Stoppers show once. Gibbs saw this as going against the street image Gunna puts out in his music. They took their argument to social media in early 2022, just before Gunna's album DS4EVER came out.

The song also takes a shot at DJ Akademiks, a media personality who has often butted heads with Gibbs on social media. Just before dissing Gunna, Gibbs rhymes, "I'm still gon' squeeze Akademiks' tt**es, that fat b**tard." This line adds to the ongoing public spat between the two, which got worse when Akademiks sided with Gunna in their previous argument.

Lyrics highlight the tension between Freddie Gibbs, Gunna, and DJ Akademiks

Akademiks had previously mocked Gibbs, pointing out that Gunna’s DS4EVER was predicted to outperform any of Gibbs’ releases in terms of first-week sales.

The album DS4EVER had an impressive start, selling 144,000 units during its first week and taking the No. 2 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. Not long before this, Gunna included the line “Can’t f**k with Freddie Gibbs, n**s tellin' fibs” in his song “Poochie Gown.” Akademiks responded to the album’s success by tweeting at Gibbs. He implied that the only reason Gibbs was part of the discussion was because Gunna mentioned him in the album.

Gibbs has worked outside the world of mainstream rap. He creates music aimed at a smaller, more specific audience. His albums, such as the praised Alfredo and Soul Sold Separately, haven’t reached the high sales of someone like Gunna, but are often admired for their strong lyrics and solid production.

With Alfredo 2, Freddie Gibbs appears to double down in ongoing disputes, relying on clever wordplay to address issues rather than turning to social media. It’s unclear if Gunna or Akademiks will reply to these lyrical jabs, but right now, Lavish Habits remains one of the most talked-about tracks on the album.
