Netflix to Golden Globes organization: We're cutting ties until you get your act together

“Like many in our industry, we’ve been waiting for today’s announcement in the hope that you would acknowledge the breadth of issues facing the HFPA and provide a clear roadmap for change,” Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos wrote in a letter addressed to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association after it voted Thursday to make sweeping changes. Netflix dominated this year's Golden Globes, so the streamer's action holds a lot of weight. "Damn. This is a big deal. Props to @Netflix for being first to take a stand," tweeted Ava DuVernay. ALSO: I Know This Much Is True Golden Globe winner Mark Ruffalo says it's discouraging to see the HFPA "resist the change that is being asked of them."
