Tomorrowland 2025 organizers have revealed the festival will kick off as originally planned, despite the "severe damage" to its main stage. According to a local news outlet, VRT News, a huge blaze engulfed the set on Wednesday, July 16, 2025.
In the evening, organizers took to the festival's official Instagram account to address the unfortunate disaster. While the statement did not elaborate on the cause of the fire, it noted that "no one was injured." The post continued to add:
"We can announce that, DreamVille (campsite) will open tomorrow (Thursday, July 17) as planned and will be ready for all DreamVille visitors. All Global Journey activities in Brussels and Antwerp will take place as planned."
Tomorrowland is an annual electronic dance music festival that has been held in Boom, Belgium, since 2005 (not including 2020 and 2021). Notably, the main stage is a centerpiece attraction during the event. Per VRT News, this year the said stage was 45 m high and 160 m wide. It featured more than 2100 atmospheric elements like water fountains.
2025 marks the 19th iteration of Tomorrowland. It features appearances from Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, David Guetta, The Blessed Madonna, and several others. According to the festival's website, the year's theme is Orbyz, describing it as:
"Set in a magical universe made entirely out of ice, will reveal a hidden community that has been existing under a gigantic ice cap for many years."
Per the website, the said magical community has a unique energy source—powerful, red-colored crystals and rocks.
In a separate Instagram post, the festival organizers addressed losing its main stage. Calling it a creation born from "passion, imagination, and dedication," the message continued:
"This wasn’t just a stage. It was a living, breathing world. From the very first sketch on a blank page, to countless hours of conceptual design, artistic collaboration, engineering, crafting, building, every single piece of Orbyz carried part of our soul."
The organizers added that they were working on finding possible solutions to replace the main stage for the festival. They added that no other areas of the venue were affected in the fire.
VRT News shared viral videos of the fire, which showed the main state completely enveloped in flames and plumes of black smoke. According to the outlet, at the time of the incident there were no festival-goers on site. However, there were about 1,000 staff members on the ground who were evacuated.
Debby Wilmsen, a spokesperson for Tomorrowland, told VRT News that they had started construction of the main stage in May. Focusing on the positives, she added that there were other stages with a great atmosphere and a good lineup scheduled.
In a statement made to CNN, Morgan Hermans, who lived near the venue, explained she initially heard fireworks going off, prompting her to investigate. Elaborating on the scene outside her window, she explained:
"There was just a big cloud of fireworks and smoke very near us, so that was a bit scary," adding, "everyone in Boom was a bit terrified for a few seconds."
Tomorrowland is scheduled to take place over two weekends, between July 18 and July 20 and between July 25 and July 27.
