Netflix dropped All The Sharks in July 2025, giving audiences a fresh blend of ocean adventure and competition. British marine scientist Tom Hird nicknamed "The Blowfish," took the helm as host. The program tracked groups of shark enthusiasts as they globetrotted to capture footage of the sea's mightiest and most captivating sharks.

L.A.-based Best Productions crafted the series, which showcased diverse teams showing their unique talents and tools to tackle shark-related tasks. Some teams opted for free-diving, while others relied on tech to map out their plunges. Regardless of their approach, each squad had to juggle risk, timelines, and collaboration to finish their missions.

Hird described his role as host as "a true honor, and one hell of a dive trip," adding that teaming up with an array of "shark fanatics" enhanced the experience.

As both the show's face and its expert, Hird helped steer the teams through tricky dives. He also used the platform to champion shark and ocean conservation. The show blended science, excitement, and learning in a way that kept viewers hooked and made complex ideas easy to grasp.

Teams tackled shark challenges with unique strategies in All the Sharks

Throughout the season, All The Sharks showcased teams with varying skillsets as they attempted to film different shark species. Some relied on free-diving techniques, using breath control and stamina to extend time underwater.

Other teams used a science-based approach, planning their dives using technology, ocean currents, and satellite tools.

The competition tested more than just diving skills; teams had to manage their time well, pick the best locations, and make quick decisions during the dives.

Each episode came with new challenges, like strong currents or cloudy water, which made the missions harder to plan and complete.

Hird observed how the teams approached the tasks differently.

“It was incredible to see how different disciplines took on the challenges I set them,” he said.

In one episode, a team overcame gear failure to capture rare footage, while another team’s strategic planning helped them locate a large school of reef sharks.

Hird acted as a guide and observer, offering insights based on his dive experience and knowledge of shark behavior.

The series highlighted the strengths of each team and encouraged creative problem-solving under pressure, making the competition both educational and engaging.

The Blowfish combined science, hosting, and conservation

Tom Hird brought over two decades of diving and marine biology experience to his role on All The Sharks. As both host and expert, he balanced entertainment with science, offering real-time feedback and conservation tips to the contestants.

“Being able to front such a unique and innovative show, whilst also being able to champion the cause of shark and ocean conservation was a huge opportunity,” he said.

Each episode gave Hird a chance to share his love for ocean life while helping keep the teams safe during close shark encounters. The show focused on treating wildlife with care and teaching viewers why it’s important to protect the ocean.

Along with All The Sharks, Hird also hosted Surviving Jaws on Discovery during Shark Week 2025. That special marked the 50th anniversary of Jaws and explored real-world shark behavior portrayed in the films. Hird’s past credits included Ocean Wonders, Fishing Impossible, and several Shark Week documentaries.

He had earlier led ocean education programs like Marks & Spencer’s School of Fish and worked as an ambassador for several ocean conservation groups. With All The Sharks, Hird continued his goal of mixing science with storytelling, hoping to inspire more people, especially the younger generation, to care for and protect marine life.
