The superhero film Deadpool & Wolverine was released in theaters on July 26, 2024, in the United States of America. It is based on the Marvel Comics characters Wolverine and Deadpool. It was the third Deadpool film and was directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay he wrote with Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells. As per Box Office Mojo, it grossed $1.338 billion worldwide, becoming the second-highest-grossing film of 2024.
The synopsis for the film, as per the official Marvel website, reads:
Marvel Studios’ ”Deadpool & Wolverine” finds Wade Wilson with his past as the morally flexible Deadpool behind him, until he suddenly finds himself in a fight for the survival of his homeworld and must suit-up again—and convince a reluctant Wolverine to help him.
Viewers were left confused over a scene in which Deadpool watches an alternate reality at the TVA headquarters in which Thor is crying while holding a dying version of the mercenary. Deadpool himself keeps wondering throughout the movie as to why that must have happened, eventually leaving the viewers without an answer.
Let’s explore some of the theories that fans believe must be the reason behind the scene.
A prominent theory regarding the whole scene is that it is from the upcoming Avengers movie, Avengers: Doomsday. The TVA is known to monitor and maintain the stability of different timelines. Mr. Paradox could be keeping tabs on the timeline in which the next movie takes place. However, the theory seems less likely as Ryan Reynolds was not featured in the list of 27 cast members announced by Marvel Studios in March 2025.
There is also speculation that it might be a suggestion of a team-up between Deadpool and the Asgardian god, Thor. After the successful team-up between Wolverine and the mercenary in the film Deadpool & Wolverine, it could very well be a possibility for a future Deadpool movie. The same has also been seen in the 2009 Marvel Comics titled Deadpool Team-Up #887. The comic series with the same title is known for exploring the mercenary Wade Wilson's, also known as Deadpool, partnership with different Marvel Universe heroes in each issue.
Another possibility is that it could simply mean nothing. It is repurposed footage of Thor from the movie Thor: The Dark World, where he cries over his brother Loki's apparent death. However, in recent times, both Chris Hemsworth and Ryan Reynolds have addressed the scene vaguely. Collider’s editor-in-chief, Steve Weintraub, had asked the same question to Ryan Reynolds, who portrays the role of Deadpool, in August 2024.
“I know this is the spoiler one, Frosty, where I’m supposed to open up the robe completely, and I show you stuff. I definitely told you I wouldn’t be wearing pants and I did. I failed you. But we’re gonna — that will materialize.” replied Ryan.
Chris Hemsworth, in an interview in September 2024 with BlackGirlNerds, a YouTuber, suggested the same thing—that the audience will soon receive an answer to the scene.
"I'm asking the same question. I don't know. You'll have to uh...you'll have to, you know, keep your focus on the Marvel Universe, because there will be an answer, it will be told one day." answered Chris.
As per IMDb, the film Deadpool & Wolverine has received a positive approval rating of 7.6/10 based on over 495,000 user reviews so far. The viewers can watch the movie on the Disney+ app.
