Actress Salma Hayek recently shared an insight into her bond with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds’ family. During the 2025 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue launch party on Thursday, May 15, the actress told E! News she was "close" to their kids.
Hayek, who is set to appear on the cover of the magazine's upcoming issue, explained that she has been friends with the couple for a very long time. Expressing her delight at having a chance to "play" with the little ones, she added:
"They got to see their tia Salma. Some of them speak some Spanish."
When asked whether she was hoping they would learn the language, the Frida star stated:
"Am I hoping they learn? No, especially they little one. They understand. They understand Spanish, and they’re lovely."
Reynold and Lively are parents to four kids: James, 10; Inez, 8; Betty, 5; and Olin, 2.
During Thursday's interview, E! News brought up Salma Hayek's recent outing with Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The trio was spotted enjoying an evening in New York City alongside Lively's sister Robyn. The group had dinner at the RH Rooftop Restaurant.
When asked whether Hayek would be working with either actor on another project, the Desperado star suggested she didn't have any films lined up with the couple. Salma Hayek and Blake Lively starred together in the 2012 crime thriller Savages. Meanwhile, she worked with Reynold on the 2017 action comedy, The Hitman's Bodyguard, and its 2021 sequel, Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard.
Hayek has shared a close relationship with the couple over the years. Back in 2012, while discussing their film Savages with USA Today, Lively and Hayek revealed they bonded over their love for food, according to HOLA!. Both admitted their passion for cooking. The Gossip Girl alum noted that she didn't like following a recipe, with Salma Hayek adding:
"I love to watch Top Chef in France. It's hard core. I cook. I go to the market, and I see things, and I buy and make whatever is in the refrigerator. I am an artiste."
Blake confirmed her co-star's culinary skills by pointing out that every time she went over to Salma Hayek's home, there was "such good food."
In April 2016, the actress spent quality time with Lively and her family, enjoying a "chocolate marshmallow pizza," reported E! News. Salma later shared a glimpse from their time together in an Instagram post with the caption:
"Having a lively time eating chocolate marshmallow pizza with the Lively girls #girlsnightout @blakelively @robynlively #chocolate #pizza #marshmallow."
A year later, tia Salma played babysitter for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's then 10-month-old daughter, Ines. In an IG post, the From Dusk Till Dawn actress shared a photo of herself wearing an apron and cooking while holding the toddler. Meanwhile, Reynolds is seen in the background calling his daughter. In the caption, Salma Hayek quipped:
"When your friends invite you for dinner and you end up doing all the work."
Around the same time, in an interview with E! News's Sibley Scoles discussing her film with Reynolds, The Hitman's Bodyguard, Salma Hayek noted that she was "really close" with her co-star's wife. She added:
"Blake is my girl."
During the Variety's Power of Women NYC luncheon in April 2017, Hayek praised Lively for her "sense of self" and "courage" while presenting her with an award.
