Food Network’s Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out aired its penultimate episode, titled Sabotage at Sea, on July 8, 2025. The challenge welcomed back guest judge Jet Tila, who joined host Brian Malarkey to assess four chefs — Britt Rescigno, Julia Chebotar, Lana Lagomarsini, and Kelvin Fernandez — as they tackled a series of sabotages while preparing refined Italian dishes.

The competition’s format pushed chefs into uncomfortable territory right from the start. With unlabeled ingredients, no cooking vessels, and multiple sabotages through bidding wars, the chefs were forced to adapt quickly.

Britt Rescigno, a familiar face on Food Network, attempted to fuse Asian and Italian styles by preparing a ramen bolognese dish. However, Jet Tila described the outcome as having “peanut noodle vibes,” noting that it leaned more Asian than Italian in flavor and presentation.

Despite positive remarks on taste and texture, Britt’s dish was labeled the “least Italian” by the judge, ultimately leading to her elimination. The remaining contestants — Julia, Lana, and Kelvin — moved forward to the finale. Episode 9 highlighted the unpredictable nature of Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out, where creativity, adaptability, and risk-taking played a major role in the competition.

During the first round of Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out episode 9, the chefs were told to make a “refined Italian dish” in just 45 minutes. They had two minutes to grab ingredients, but nothing was labeled, so they had to guess what they were picking. Soon after, a sabotage removed all cooking vessels, forcing the chefs to bid in an auction for new tools.

Britt Rescigno spent $1,700 to get an espresso pot and said, “Could be worse.” Since the pot was small, she changed her plan and decided to make ramen bolognese instead. In another auction, she partnered with Lana to spend $3,000 on fresh ingredients.

Britt used the espresso pot to make a sauce and also crisped rice cereal for texture. She mixed in ground beef, pork, anchovies, and lots of herbs to bring an Italian twist to her Asian-style dish.

“It’s got a nice savoriness and acidity, and saltiness to it,” he shared.

    However, he added,

“It’s definitely giving me more, like, peanut noodle vibes from Asia,” pointing out that the dish didn’t meet the Italian brief.

Although he complimented the texture and called the ramen “luscious,” he decided to eliminate Britt for not aligning with the challenge’s theme.

Julia, Lana, and Kelvin advance as the finale of Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out approaches

After Britt was eliminated in Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out, three chefs were left in the competition: Julia Chebotar, Lana Lagomarsini, and Kelvin Fernandez. All of them had to deal with tough sabotages in the first round but still managed to create Italian dishes that matched the challenge.

Julia’s dish was praised for being well-balanced, while Lana’s risotto stood out to Jet Tila as one that really captured the taste of Italy. Lana also earned a $1,000 bonus for making the best dish of the round. Kelvin said he just made it through, admitting,

“I barely made it to round two. I just want to cook with equipment.”

The challenge came with many problems, like mystery ingredients, bidding for cooking tools, and shared pantry access. It tested how quickly the chefs could adjust their plans. Britt and Lana worked together during the pantry auction, but in the end, it came down to how well each person cooked.

By the end of the episode, the three finalists were ready to move on to the final round. In the next episode of Cutthroat Kitchen: Knives Out, they will have to make a high-end dish fit for a captain’s table. With more sabotages expected, the chefs will need to use smart planning, careful spending, and strong cooking skills to win the $25,000 prize.
