Roger E. Mosley retired from acting 2010, but after CBS rebooted the show that made him a star in 2018, he agreed to appear on the new series — twice.
On both occasions he appeared opposite Stephen Hill, the actor who took on the role created by Mosley in the original Magnum P.I., helicopter pilot Theodore "T.C." Calvin.
Mosley first appeared in a cameo role during the new show's first season as T.C.'s barber John Booky, a Vietnam vet to whom the new T.C. goes for sage advice.
Two years later, Mosley reprised the role as part of more extended arc in an episode that saw Magnum (Jay Hernandez), T.C., and friends seeking shelter inside their favorite tiki bar La Mariana while a Hurricane hits the Island.
In the clip below, Hill and Mosley again share the screen, with Hill's T.C. shaking a leg with Mosley's begrazzled Booky as he sings karaoke to pass the time.
At the time, Stephen Hill said of Mosley's return: "To have Roger in town is not only an honor, it's a whole lot of fun because the man has jokes for days, and a lot of stories to go along with them."
Mosley died Sunday at the age of 83 after being injured in a car crash last week.
Mosley's daughter shared the news of his death in a Facebook post, saying, "Roger E. Mosley, my father, your friend, your 'coach Mosley,' your 'TC' from Magnum P.I., passed away at 1:17am. He was surrounded by family as he transcended peacefully. We could never mourn such an amazing man. He would HATE any crying done in his name. It is time to celebrate the legacy he left for us all. I love you daddy. You loved me too. My heart is heavy but I am strong. I will care for mommy, your love of almost 60 years. You raised me well and she is in good hands. Rest easy."
Mosley also appeared in a number of other series including RoboCop, Hangin' With Mr. Cooper, Night Court, The Love Boat, Starsky and Hutch, Night Gallery, Sanford and Son.
